300th Anniversary of Christ Lutheran Church in Germantown (Viewmont), New York

Christ Lutheran Church in Viewmont is celebrating their 300th Anniversary on Sunday, October 3. This celebration is a part of the greater 300th anniversary celebration in the Town of Germantown (see Germantown NY History for more info), to commemorate the coming of the Palatine German immigrants in 1710.

Christ, Viewmont was immediately founded at the time of this immigration, serving those first settlers, and continues to this day to minister to the Germantown and Southern Columbia County communities.

The church's celebration begins at 8 am with an Anniversary Breakfast (continuous serve and free-will donation), during which a slide show of the congregation's history will be shown, followed by the 10 am worship service, which will be based on a colonial Lutheran English liturgy written in 1748 by Rev. Henry Melchior Muhlenburg, who many consider the father of American Lutheranism. We will also be installing Jackie Jefferson as our new Ministry Assistant.

Since this is a Parish Joint Worship Service, there will be no worship services at the other churches this Sunday. Please make plans to attend this special event!

A PowerPoint presentation was created for the anniversary celebration, it can be downloaded here (please note that since this file is 18MB in size, it will take at least 5 minutes to download via a DSL or cable connection, and much longer via dial-up connection).

Here's a web page developed by the Rev. Jay Webber (a son of Christ, Viewmont) regarding the congregation's history:
