This Months' Featured Lures!

Staying in New England again this month for another group of lures made by one of the smaller Massachusetts tackle companies. This months' lures are made by the Blue Streak Tackle Co. I don't have much history on this company but from what I can gather they started in the 1950's as the E & E Tackle Co. in Waltham, Mass. They made an odd looking metal lipped swimmer that is pictured below. Stamped on the belly, E & E Tackle Co., O. H. Everett & R. O. Everett. Waltham, Mass. Pat. Pending. And if I remember right I think I've also seen a popper of some sort like this too. The lure had a crude paint job which usually didn't hold up, this is the best example I've seen to date.

The next two lures pictured are an Atom Mfg. Co. knock-off in size and weight. At about 7 1/2" long and 3.5 oz. this was a large lure. The first is a blueflash like color with lots of sparkle added. The second one pictured came in a box marked squid. It also came in a reddish color with sparkle and a black barred type. Other variations I've seen were all white with flitter and a yellow flash. All of the early Blue Streak lures from the 1950's and 60's came in a two piece cardboard box. Later lures from the 1970's came in a plastic bag.

The fourth plug is a Jr. Atom type version of the above swimmer in the same squid color. It is 2.3 oz. and 5" long. All of the lures are thru-wired and have a stainless steel lip.

The next lure is an Eel Skin Plug in what I think is one of the nicest colors they made. This lure is 5" long and weighs 2.6 oz. It came unrigged so you could tie on an eel in the groove that is in the middle of the lure and then you would put on the hooks. I've seen it with a front treble and a rear single hook too.

Next up is a popper that came in a few different sizes and weights. First we have the larger sized one in red/white with sparkles, it is 6" long and weighs a heavy 3.3 oz. Probably would cast a mile!

Here's a belly shot, as you can see it's marked Blue Streak. Almost all of the lures I've seen were marked somewhere on the lure.

The sixth lure pictured is the smaller popper mentioned and is 5" long and only weighs 1.5 oz. It's a blue/white color with sparkles.

The last two lures pictured below are reverse rigged poppers that are just like a reverse Atom but with more sets of treble hooks. They are a squid color and the first is 7 1/2" long and weighs 3 ozs. The second one, (Thanks Paul for the use of your picture) is about 5" long and weighs about 1.5 oz.

That's it for now. Come back in a month or so for another Saltwater lure.
