AUSSIE GIRL IN POTTER MOVIE

Katharine Nicholson is set to act in the highly-anticpated Harry Potter and the Sorcerers' Stone
Nicholson's character is that of Pansy Parkinson, sly Slytherin first-year and rival of Hermione Granger. She
will be acting opposite the child stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, but also
distinguished names such as Dame Maggie Smith and John Cleese.
However, fame and fortune isn't all fun. Nicholson's part has sparked controversy, as the young actress
was born in Australia. Nicholson has dual British-Australian citizenship because of her strong heritage.
Chris Columbus, the director of Harry Potter has made the film strictly no-Americans-allowed. This
has outraged many Americans who wanted to get parts.
"I think it is hypocritical. Why is an Australian allowed a role when we Americans are avoided like a
disease?" askes 11-year-old Eva Calderwood, from Chicago, who was hoping to get a role in the movie.
Despite these problems, 12-year-old Katharine is thrilled. "I am so excited to be cast! It is a once in a
lifetime opportunity. I love the Harry Potter series, and have read all the books at lease three times.
I feel very privileged."
