Art Projects Teachers Can Implement
 Papier-mâché

In cooperative groups, children will create their own herd of elephants using what they have learned throughout this project.  They will name their elephants and create a fictional story.  Students should have the opportunity to display their artwork and tell their story to a lower grade class.
Material: Newspaper, scissors, glue, tempera paints, small containers, florist wire, wallpaper paste
Clay
Students can also choose to work with clay.  Before attempting this project expose children to this material and allocate time for exploration.  They will base their work on an idea pertaining to the elephant topic.
 Collage
Gather collage materials such as: colored paper, transparent paper, strips of cloth, toothpicks, cardboard, string, old magazines, etc…
Questions to Pose
If students are having trouble getting started, try to encourage them by asking significant questions that might spark some ideas.
1. What images come to mind when you think of elephants?
2. If you were an elephant what are some things you would do?
3. What does the habitat of an elephant look like?
4. What form does an elephant have?
