Why Join ECJA?

As a non-NCAA sport, Judo programs find themselves in a constant battle for survival. The Recreational Sports offices are always looking for coaches and students to justify the amount of money they need, what kinds of events they are participating, etc. (you know the feeling). Being part of a recognized organization makes easy the presentation of your season. Very few club sports have organizations that they can join in order to provide a cohesive intercollegiate program. Having an organization to support your program is the number one reason. It provides you credibility at the meetings and gives you the opportunity for publish your success against other collegiate institutions. There are a couple more reasons we can provide that may assist your club on making the decision of being part of the organization:

  1. With a limited budget, the majority of us can only send a few student/athletes to National competition. Making the decision is tough for coaches when you have players that have similar abilities. Therefore, using student’s performance at ECJA championships could be an excellent criterion to support your athletes.
  2. ECJA will provide athletes who place first at the advanced division of the yearly championships with $50.00 to help them making it to the National Collegiate Championships. (This money is provided as a reimbursement after the student/athlete returns from Nationals and present proof of participation)

There are other reasons we can mention, but you together with your athletes can assess the benefits of being part of the organization. However, I also know that developing Judo players and the sport at the collegiate level is rewarding enough for the all of us. That is why we still here running the programs.
