MINUTES OF THE MVSRA MEETING ON APRIL 18, 2004

Meeting called to order at 2:02 PM

Minutes of the previous meeting were approved

Rollcall: Rich Abel, Glen Bahr, Rifet Begic, Bill Brooks, Art Durando, John Elnicky, Chip Hadity, Jon Harter, Kit Hutchinson, Patrick Inserra, Peter Inserra, Ed Kobos, Jeff Kuhn, Byron May, Steve McNamara, Rick Mitchelson, Ray Pitcher, Eric Ventura, Jason Waters, Kevin Waters.

Correspondence:

  1. The association was invited to send referees to Gettysburg, PA for their annual tournament over Memorial Day.
  2. Rich Ceorzo (re-certification chairman) asked us to fill out a form denoting when the date of our re-certification is to be held.

President’s report:

  1. We need more members and the members must start volunteering for committees.

Vice-President’s report:

  1. New forms for game logs are available to keep track of the amount of games you do to make upgrading easier.
  2. More new member cards were passed out as none were received by the VP.
  3. Attended the ENYSSA meeting in February:
    1. Some areas have more referees than games
    2. Language barriers were discussed
    3. Hosting clinics for referees was suggested
    4. Working with colleges to offer phys. Ed. Credit for referees was suggested

Assignor’s report:

  1. Junior League:
    1. Junior league game referees will be paid on the field with each team paying half.
    2. Fees for each game were announced.
    3. Junior league games for u16 an u19 will be assigned a 3-man crew.
    4. Games start at the end of April and there are currently 5 teams with more to come.
    5. Kevin will attempt to send a 3-man crew to all Junior league games when possible to give new referees experience.
  2. Availability sheets are posted on our website or by calling Kevin. Games start by the end of the month so get them in ASAP.
  3. Kevin has received calls and emails from Oneonta and Albany asking assistance for the upcoming year with more details to follow.

Secretary’s report:

  1. Rosters were distributed and many changes were made to the information provided.

Treasurer’s report:

  1. The treasurer was unavailable so the deadline for paying dues for the year was extended to the next meeting as no one was sure who has paid.
  2. The president will ask the treasurer for the Association checkbook as his failure to fulfill his duties has caused many people to have reimbursements delayed.

Membership Committee:

  1. We need more members to properly assign games for the CNYSSL in particular.
  2. We also need people to volunteer for the Membership Committee.

Training Committee:

  1. 8 new members were added this year and the 3 in attendance were recognized and applauded.
  2. There are 5 new law changes effective July 1, 2004 and at least 2 will affect our games.
  3. Ed would like us to research and locate "Law 5 IBD 8" on the web. It was in reference to too much whistling at a game for trifling fouls.
  4. A video featuring fouls from the 1994 world cup was shown and the attendees were given a list of calls to be made and were told the results.

Unfinished Business:

  1. The electronic flags the Association purchased were demonstrated.
  2. 2004 law books and patches were distributed.
  3. The referee and youth referee of the year were announced.
  4. Art and Eric will work on a better voting system for this year.

New Business:

  1. The CNYSSL season will start the first week of June. There are currently 8 teams in men’s A and women’s divisions and 11 in the men’s B division.
  2. The Oneonta Hall of Fame schedule is on the availability forms with the Oneonta assignor’s email address.
  3. 6 referees were recommended for the ENY state cup based on various factors.
  4. ODP and Region 1 championships are looking for referees but they are chosen by the State Youth Referee Administrator who must see you in action.
  5. Ed is placing another OSI order on Friday April 23.
  6. Due to Mother’s Day the next meeting will be held on May 23 at 7pm with proper notification made by the secretary.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:35 PM (Byron May and Patrick Inserra)
