MINUTES OF THE MVSRA MEETING ON 2/1/04
Attendance: Art Durando, Rifet Begic, Bill Brooks, Ray Pitcher, Glen Bahr, Ed Kobos, Kevin Waters, Jim Wright, Byron May, John Elnicky, Sarah Giffune, Jason Waters, John Story, Kit Hutchinson, Peter Inserra.

- Correspondence:
- Geoff Davis will have a clinic at the Hall of Fame in Oneonta entitled "How to deal with verbal abuse and abusive coaches" on February 8, 2004.
- Advanced State Referee Clinic will be held on February 8, 2004 for referees grade 6 and above. Grades 7 and 8 will be allowed to attend by invitation only.
- Officers Reports:
- President
- Eastern NY referees meeting on 2/15/04 in New Rochelle. From 8am to 11am will be instruction and then the referees will be broken into groups. Overnight hotel accommodations for 2 referees paid by the association was approved: Ray & Glen.
- The association had 35 referees last year and 6 resigned
- Vice-President
- Cards are available to give to prospective referees. Contact Art.
- Art would like advice from other referees as to what to include in the follow up package mailed to prospective referees that return a card. Our coverage area, startup costs and equipment needed were suggestions given at the meeting.
- Treasurer
- The association has $1154.96 in the bank as of 12/31/03. We started the year with $850.21; we received $2634.50 and paid out $2194.75. There is still a check outstanding and presumed lost for $135.00.
- Assignor
- The CNYJSL will pay on the field this year with details to follow.
- There is a possibility of a youth league in the area this year.
- Availability sheets for the CNYJSL and CNYSSL will be available at the next meeting.
- Secretary
- The secretary passed around a spreadsheet for attendance for the 2003 meetings and was advised on members that resigned.
- Committee Reports
- Membership needs more referees to pick up the work of re-building the association.
- The audit committee audited last year’s financial reports and found them in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principals.
- Unfinished business
- Entry Level Referee course will be February 28 and March 6, 2004. Flyers are being distributed around the area. If you would like a flyer contact Ed.
- There might be a linesperson course given to increase club AR’s.
- 2004 Dues are due by the next meeting in April without a late fee. Attendance will reduce next year’s dues by $1.00 per meeting up to $5.00.
- A few people have not registered for 2004. Contact Ed immediately.
- Voting for referee and youth referee of the year was done at the meeting.
- New Business
- AYSO meeting on 2/13-2/15 in Baltimore, MD.
- Some complaints and kudos given by members of the CNYSSL were read at the meeting. Professionalism, flow and dress were some compliments and more cards, more consistency and more skills were some complaints.
- ENY coins are still available. See Ed.
- 32 MVSRA coins are still available and Ed was asked to buy more: Kevin & Ray
- Pins and flags for our association was discussed
- Rifet to check on prices for our logo to be embroidered on other clothing.
- Items for the good of the game:
- A referee in a Mexican League game was seen with advertisement on the arms of his jersey.
7) Training:
- The re-certification test was reviewed.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:15 PM.
