What:
King/Queen-
A King or Queen of the Hill tournament is a tournament
where you play with different partners throughout
the day (women will play with and against women, men
with and against men, juniors with and against juniors).
The person who performs the best throughout the tournament
will be named the "King" or "Queen".
For this type of tournament, you do not need to bring
a partner (since your partners will be assigned throughout
the day). This is a good way to get into outdoor volleyball
and meet new people. Juniors will be broken up into
divisions based on age- divisions will be determined
to best accomodate those registered.
Regular
Tourney- These are regular doubles
tournaments (unless otherwise noted). You are required
to bring your own partner. There will be "pool
play" the first half of the day (where the teams
are divided into groups of 3, 4, 5... teams and play
each other) with the top 1, 2, 3... teams in each
pool qualifying for playoffs (the exact number depends
on the number of entries). A single (or double) elimination
playoff will determine the winning teams. Men's, women's,
& juniors' teams play on Saturday; coed teams
play on Sunday. Juniors will be broken up into divisions
based on age- divisions will be determined to best
accomodate those registered.
3 on
3 Charity Tournament- This tournament
is a fundraiser for the Amarican Lung Association.
The organization provides money for research to cure
various lung ailments. We will have 2 divisions: Power
& Competitive. All teams must have at least 1
male & 1 female player. Teams will allowed to
have 1 substitute player (there will be an extra charge
of $15). Teams will play pool play matches in order
to see who qualifies for playoffs.
Prizes:
Power-
In the open divisions, cash prizes will be given.
For all regular tournaments, $200 is guaranteed to
the 1st place teams in the men's, women's, and coed
divisions and $100 is guaranteed to the 2nd place
teams (provided a minimum of 10 teams are registered
in that division). If more than 10 teams are registered
for that division, more places may be paid and more
prize money will be awarded. For the King/Queen tournaments,
a cash award equal to $10/registered player will be
awarded to the winner with $5/registered player going
to the runner-up. Sweet Sets merchndise may also be
awarded in addition to prize money.
Competitive-
To minimize the risk of players sand-bagging (playing
below their level), prize money (if awarded) in the
competitive division will be limited to an amount
equal to the entry fee. Prizes will be given out for
the top placing teams.
Juniors-
In order to avoid problems with later college eligibility,
juniors players will not be
awarded prize money. Top placing juniors players will
be awarded prizes recognizing their accomplishments
in the tournament. Sweet Sets merchandise may also
be awarded.
