Brian Littrell has been called the soul of the Backstreet Boys. He was born in Kentucky in February of 1975 and was immediately immersed into the world of music. He grew up in a Baptist family and says, "even since I could walk, I was singing." He and Kevin Richardson are cousins, and they recall on occasion playing "rock stars" with Brian's older brother Harold III.
Brian continued to develop his musical talents in school productions such as Grease, which lead to much much more. When Brian was 18 year old, he got a call from Kevin inviting him to join the Backstreet Boys, and was a little hesitant. "I was 18 years old. I was very close to graduating high school. I was offered a scholarship [to college]" Brian had his future already planned.
Although he was the last member to join the Backstreet Boys, he was the first to write songs that appeared on an album. He's taken time off from clubbing and other things members of the group would be doing to devote time to songwriting.
Brian was born with an undiagnosed heart murmer and a hole in his heart. After he was 5 years old, doctors assume an infection began circulating in his blood. He was on antibiotics for months, the lonliest time of his life, as he says. He recoevered even after the doctors told his family to prepare for the worst. Finally in 1998, he had heart surgery to correct the problem once and for all. On July 8th, 1998, he stepped on stage for his first performance after the surgery. "It doesn't matter how loud the audience is, but you can here a pin drop on stage because you're in such a world." Brian says.
