Minutes
St. Columba/St. Denis/Blessed Kateri Conference May 13, 2009
Carole opened the meeting at 7:15 pm with a reading from John chapter 3 verses 16-21.

The minutes were read by Barbara Yannaco, accepted by John Lucid, and seconded by Linda Hunt.

We are pleased to say that we had five new members attend our meeting this month. We welcome Walter Hendricks, Bill and Sonja Keaveney, Bob O’Connor, and Kevin McAuliffe.

In attendance were: Betty Riggio, Nancy Guarino, Nick Dono, Jack Kiely, Linda Hunt, Bill and Carole Grafer, Chuck and Joanne Bunnell, Ed and Dianne Ryan, John Lucid, Janet Kenny, Laura and Bucky Ryan, Kathleen Mc Garry, Pat Brennan, Barbara Yannaco and our five new members.

Our HPNAP report for April: we served 85 households which included 127 children, 133 adults, and 20 elderly.

Due to an electrical problem in Hopewell Junction the capacitor in our freezer broke down and we lost at least 14 cases of meat. We will be having an alarm installed so that  if there is a power failure in the future we will know and be able to prevent such a loss from happening. We would like to thank John Lucid for going shopping for us so that we would have meat to give to our clients.

Please advise your clients that Catholic Charities is a good resource for them. They can advise them where to go to get the help that they need and also help them with job loss counseling. Carole handed out an informational page on this  at the meeting so if you need one please see Carole. Also  please  let your clients know that the income levels to qualify for food stamps and HEAP were raised in January and they may qualify now even if they didn’t before.

We would like to thank Taylor McAuliffe  for the food drive that she did for us in her neighborhood. Taylor did this for community service and we really appreciate the help.

We thank Boy Scout Pack 127 for their donation of 8 tickets to a breakfast at Applebee’s. The clients who received these tickets were very grateful.

It you have a client that can benefit from the Safelink program they can find information about this program on line. .Free eye exam and free glasses are available at Pearl Vision for people who qualify. The client should call Jessica at Dutchess Outreach at 454-3792 for information and the necessary letterhead.

Chuck and Joanne went to the food bank on May 13th and returned with 3306 pounds of food. After applying a $1000 credit  from United Way and a grant of $675 this food cost us $1476.71. Kevin, Bucky, Laura, Ed, Nick, Betty, Carole, Linda, and Jim Mullen were on hand to put this away.

Jim Mullen will be handling the milk purchases for us. John Lucid continues to shop for things that we need but are unable to get at the food bank.

Carole spoke with Fr. Norton on April 17th and a place was found where the donations of food could be put.  We have purchased a food container to help keep it neat and all in one place.

We continue to help the mothers placed in apartments by Good Counsel  but we are also looking for other places where we can help out with baby needs.

The June 10th meeting will be our last until September. Joanne will be doing the prayer for this meeting. We will be taking a vote on the Christmas gifts issue. Please give this some thought . We will also be having a short social after the meeting. Everyone is invited to bring something for all to enjoy.

Carole closed the meeting at 8:24 with a prayer.
