Ulmer skated with the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux from 1995-1999 and spent most of the 1999-2000 season with the Canadian National Team. Played with the IHL's Houston Aeros, where he was coached by current Rangers coach Ron Low.
Is a tenacious player, who is not easily intimidated. Will go into the corners and along the boards to get the puck with no problem. Has excellent speed, and a good wrist shot. Understands the game well, and sees his options on the ice. Has NHL speed already, and a work ethic to go with it. We should get a good look at him in camp, and he is a very dark horse to make the team. Should spend the year playing in Hartford, where he can get his first full pro season under his belt. Is a talented two way player, with a solid offensive upside.
