The Oswego Chapter is under new leadership
American Bikers Aimed Toward Education is a not-for-profit organization. ABATE is interested in promoting those measures that maintain and, in some cases, restore motorcycle operation in New York and in the nation as a very enjoyable and exciting sport and lifestyle. ABATE of New York also would like to ensure that motorcycles are recognized as a very space-saving and economical means of transportation.
ABATE’s position on safety is to support all efforts and initiatives that will lead to accident prevention. We feel that a motorcycle rider training program that is widely available to young and beginning riders is one the the most important safety features a state can have. The majority of states have this already. ABATE of New York has worked with the New York Legislature for the last several years to pass a rider education bill. We also support awareness efforts directed at other road users, highlighting motorcycles and the special problems they have with other traffic. All ABATE of New York chapters are urged to participate in the Governor’s proclaimed "Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Week each spring.
ABATE of New York directs all chapters and members to maintain contact with local, state and federal legislators and be registered to vote. We see a constant threat to motorcycling and to America’s tradition of freedom of choice in general, from groups that may profit by legistating that right "to choose" away from the individual.
ABATE of New York maintains contact with many state and national rider groups and organizations, for the betterment of motorcycling.
ABATE of New York would like to see all decisions of what motorcycle safety equipment to use be left up to the adult, experienced rider. A motorcycle operator that does not drive in a safe and sober manner will not have an accident prevented by mandated equipment, or, as in many cases, be saved by the safety equipment. Accident prevention is the real way to motorcycle safety.
