Season IV Page Updated

Notice: I have not updated this page in awhile, but recently checked out some of the pages related to Reboot. I see that many old Reboot websites are no longer with us, so various links are broken. I apologize for this problem, but honestly do not immediately plan to go page by page to deal with them. [6/29/03]

Update (3/04): UPN (Wed. 8PM EST) has a new show entitled Game Over, which is labelled the first prime time CGI program. I checked it out, it's kinda lame, and Reboot beats it hands down. Still, given the garbage out there, it's worth a shot.

I want to see wondrous sights not available in the real world, in stories where myth and dreams are set free to play. Animation opens that possibility, because it is freed from gravity and the chains of the possible. Realistic films show the physical world; animation shows its essence. Animated films are not copies of "real movies," are not shadows of reality, but create a new existence in their own right. True, a lot of animation is insipid, and insulting even to the children it is made for. But great animation can make the mind sing.

-- Roger Ebert reviewing Princess Mononoke

[on video, check it out, as well as "Titan AE"]

The name of this site grew out of a great show that was the highlight for me of the last lackluster summer television season, which is obviously every summer, taking out sports and other special programming. An online friend told me about the show, now (agian) shown on Cartoon Network at 6AM EST (and new episodes, Fridays at 5PM EST), and I got hooked. It tells of the lives of these characters (sprites, binomes, numbers and viruses) that live inside our computer, and centers on the lives of Bob and his other friends in a city named Mainframe.

Dot is this kewl sprite he unsurprisingly falls for since she has looks, brains, compassion, and bravery -- a complete sprite as it were. Bob is a Guardian, protecter of the others, especially when a game cube arrives -- see when we win games, it realigns things inside the computer, which equal damage to places like Mainframe. Therefore, guardians must beat the user (you and me) to protect their homes and friends. Thus, the danger of actually being good at computer games -- many a system is harmed so you might have pleasure. Bob and company also has to deal with viruses (Megabyte and Hexadecimal), and other troublesome creatures.

The sites supplied provides a good amount of information on the show, while providing other links that supplement them. A few quick thoughts on why I personally like the show. The animation (all computer animated) and storylines are both excellent -- it might be a cartoon, but it is one both children and adults can enjoy. Actually, some of the storylines might be too serious for small children. These are characters who you grow to care about, especially as they must go through some very stressful times. The writing is also excellent, including many in jokes such as an episode named 'Trust No One' with Data Nully and Fax Modem. It also makes sure to retain a sense of fun, especially with two characters named 'Hack' and 'Slash' -- got to love those guys. All in all, I say check it out, it's a great show.

Reboot Ballad by me

Let me tell you a story,
About a sprite destined for glory.
His name is Bob the Guardian.
Whose job was to play games so the user would not win.
Don’t worry, it never gets very gory.

Then he went to Mainframe,
Which promised to bring him much more fame.
But he also met a sprite named Dot,
Who he grew to like a lot,
And who made sure his life was never the same.

She has a brother named Enzo,
Where Bob went, Enzo was sure to go.
But when Bob was thrown into the web by Megabyte,
Enzo had to grow up fast, the poor sprite.
Not to worry, he had AndrAIa there whenever he felt low.

Oh yes, we cannot forget about Mouse,
Who is pretty cool, even if Dot felt she was a louse.
Mouse is a mercenary Bob met in the Super Computer, She maybe trouble but she is a straight-shooter,
[Even if we never know who Bob thinks is cuter.]
And even Dot would soon say “Thank Phong we have Mouse”.

Such is the story of Bob and his mates,
Who were often at the mercy of the fates.
They had many adventures and had to fight through many a peril,
Even the dog, Frisket, who is feral.
But not to worry, all is now alphanumeric, no matter what awaits.

Both are included in the link list at the top of the page. This site is a fan site and has no connection to Mainframe Inc (ns, I know), but is copyrighted by me, except for the pictures (the property of those credited).

Thanks to all who made Reboot possible, as well as all those out there with kewl websites to promote the show, you know who you are! I included some links and thanks to those who helped on various pages of my Reboot pages, but special thanks to Mouse for telling me about the show and helping in many ways. Check out her site:
