Writing about New York-My Neighborhood

DESCRIPTIVE

My Neighborhood is Bed-Stuy in Brooklyn.  My Neighborhood is known to be a dangerous place to live.  But I have been living in it for seven-teen years and nothing bad has happen to me in it.  Although it may seem to be, it's really not.  When sure things happen in my hood but were doesn't something happen.  Well the way I describe my hood now is totally different from the way I would have describe it like ten year ago.  Now in this present time my hood is quite, not to friendly and outgoing meaning like we don't get together to plan trips or any other community things.  But my hood has really change over the years because now you could go to sleep at night and not be waken up by gunshots.  Or people outside running at the mouth ready for a fight.  I guess it is because we have all grown up.  Because when I was younger the neighborhood kids and I use too stay up late and play games like freeze tag, and many other games that everyone could join in on, but now nobody has time for.  They have move on to my responsible thing and most of us have better things to do.  As far as I could said is that in my  neighborhood I feel safe, maybe it's because I am use to the atmosphere but I won't trade it for the any other place in the world.  Especially not m block, because eventhou everyone's is in your business, can you tell me about a place where you have live that no one knows some or all your business.  I love my neighborhood, it's were I'm growing up at and my surroundings and my environment, my neighbors and neighborhood that made me the person that I am today it mode like a piece of clay to become who I am.  And I must admit that I love the person I turn out to be, especially my loudest and my wild side, which I picked up from my neighbors that I grew up around and with.
INTERVIEW
(A family member which is my Aunt Yvette Feliciano.)

Q: How long have you live in Bed-stuy Brooklyn?
A: I have live in Bed-stuy Brooklyn since 1987.
Q:  How has the Neighborhood change?
A: The vacant lots on this block Hart St. were constructed into house for people to live in and a safe place to live.
Q: How were the Neighbors among one other?
A: It use to be so friendly here in the hood but that was about 20 years ago, but I guess since the leader of the community have gotten older and some of them even died so did most of the  community it just died right along with it.
Q: Would you have rather live anywhere else ?
A: NO not really because were ever you go it still going to be a weird or danger place to you because you have to get use to it.
Q: Is this Neighborhood more dangerous now or before since you started living in this Neighborhood?
A: I feel it is lot safer than now than before because when I was growing I would go to sleep and be awaken by gunshots and now there's barley ever gunshots or real danger in this Neighborhood.

POEM- SEASONAL CHANGES
Lets talk about My neighborhood which is Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.
I wanna tell you about the changes my hood goes in with each season.
Well during Winter, we ALL go outside and play and have snowball fights and make angels on the ground until our smiles turn into frown because coldest after a while.
During Spring, we ALL go get together and sing song like crazy because we know next season that comes brings the end of school and the being of fun.
Summer, the time to relax, and to play with no worries of getting up early because the next day doesn't bring much but more fin and time to hang out late.
Fall, the doom month, when we try to sponge off the most fun of it all because school right around the corner and the fun is about to come to an end.
Finally the cycle of Neighborhood action start to take place because we different things in each season happen and as soon as Fall is over the cycle beings to take place.

3 JOURNALS

Dear Journal,

At different times of year my neighborhood seem to be a different places.  Like in the Winter time all of us meaning the neighborhood kids, get together and play games were we stir up a lot of noise.  Like football, snowball fights and other Winter activities.  I feel my neighborhood is the most fun during this season, especially because on the corner of Hart St. were I live, there's is a huge mountain, that we all go to with garbage can lids when it snow and slide down the sides of the mountain when the snow gets slippery.  There's was one time that we all got together and went to the mountain and my boy best friend call me to run towards him when I fell and bust my @$$ it hurt but it was funny now that I look back at it.  But the best Winter of them all was in 1996.  That when a blizzard hit.  And instead of having to go to school, we would all go outside early in the morning and play all and night.  Those days were so fun, but now we are all older and don't really much in the Winter which I look forward to because it is my favorite season, but have snowball fights.

Dear Journal,

Let me tell you about the summer that take places in my Neighborhood.  Well in 1998 my block Hart St. had our first block party in over 15 year.  The block party was off the hook.  We all got turns to ride the pony's and horses that were there, ate the food that our parents made that was delicious, heard the music blasting on both side of the block in spanish and english, because that what my hood is made up of Latinos and African American all that day you saw the children getting together and playing and there were even people doing face paintings.  IT was the most funniest day of the year, but in general in the summer my block often turns on the Johnny pump and we all get into it and get wet or if not we are throw in by our friends.  Also my Neighborhoods never sleeps in the summer we also have good times and look forward to new faces joining the block and the neighborhood.  Especially when the pump is on we have tons and tons of fun during the hot long days of the summer.

Dear Journal,

I had mention that my neighborhood is kind of corny will it is.  But that when September 9, comes around every year.  That's when we all have to go into our houses early and all the fun is over because now we have to hit the books and start getting up early in the morning we can't go to sleep late or hang out because of school the next that day.  There's no more time to play, just when we feel the fun is just starting , back to school we go.  And that's when you come around my way and there's nobody outside to play.  Not even the parents, because there are getting their children ready to go to school and preparing themselves for their work place.  No one goes outside on a school night because we don't want to be tired the next day with long day of school ahead of us.

REFLECTION

The most pleasant experience during this process I would have to said was the picture that was had to take.  Because I love to take picture and it makes the project more interesting, actually getting to show those who only know what your neighborhood looks like by what I describe and getting to the show the pictures makes it more visible for them way your neighborhood really is like.  The part of the project that worked the most for me had to be the poem .  Because ever since I was younger whether I was Happy, sad, or mad, I would put my thoughts into a poem and after I got my feelings out in a poem I was satisfy.  There's was only one part that seem not to work for me and that is the all the typing that we had to do.  The most difficult part of the project was putting the work all together in to one big Neighborhood project.

 2 PICTURES SCENES

My first picture is about the mountain that get all cover up with during the winter months.  This is the very mountain that I mention in my journal that in the winter time we (hood kids) would let the snow on the mountain gets slippery and all of us taken turn sliding down the mountain sides with our garbage can lids, having a good time enjoying ourselves.  But this particular picture is of my cousin Sammy taking his turn of sliding on the mountain.

My second picture is about the summer hot days that we spend in the Johnny pumps.  Getting wet all day and all night, having a really nice time.  And this particular pictures is of my cousin Daniel having a wonderful time getting wet, and as you can see he is all soak up, you can see the water dripping off his face and neck.  In the background of the picture there's a blurry caption of a kid with water gun and the kid right next to him enjoying the sun beaming on his back.  You see this is what I man when I say the neighborhood kids have a blast in the summer time as my cousins and the background of the picture demostates.
