                                                            Creative Writing About My Family

The Thompson family has always been a people similar in their careers, but in ways stand out .  To be honest ans truthful, most of the careers that my family members have chosen have been suited well to their liking- they love what they do.  So as the generation began to widen , each set of family's in the Thompson family have embedded in their children's minds that they should enjoy what they do and no less.  I can't think of a time where any of my uncles or great aunts said that "You should take pride in ya work or it'll take the life outta you!"
Some years ago I remember my Nana (grandmother) telling me that around the early 70s that my aunt had applied for a job, got it, and really liked it.  Her skills at this job was incredible her boss commented.  She was there for about a month when she was "let go".  My aunt didn't know why until her boss told her that he gave the job to his niece.  My aunt came home crying because she couldn't understand why her boss gave her position to his neice, when she worked so hard and so well at her job.  My aunt has been working at the Federal Post Office for about 12 years now, and I sometimes wonder while she's at work does she think about that incident she went through in her younger years.
When I was about six or seven years old, my grandmother would take my cousin and I to the Picket Line where her and her employees in her sector picketed for better wages and benefits.  The only reason why we went was because we were out of shcool and she was the only person to watch us.  We went with her everyday for a little over a week, standing outside in the cold eating donuts and sipping on hot chocolate.  I don't think that at the time how much our grandmother taking us to the Picket Line had such an impact on us, especially me.  In the future, when I get a stable job, and something or some decisions within the company aren't right, I will fight to make sure it will be right along with my employees who feel the same way I do.

WHO KNEW ???  By: Sheenah J. Thompson

Who knew that the Indians created this?
Who knew that it would be the center of change,
Who knew that the white man didn't create this,
Who knew that it would be a different place?

Well, I just began to know that a community is full of different people.
I just began to know that children come to enjoy the day after school,
ump rope play tag, and forget about the school rules.
I just began to know that the elder people are plentiful,
stay up at night, look out their windows at the glistening light to see
that the block is quiet and gentle.

I just began to know that the "fellas" hang out at the run down corner store,
fixate their eyes on a young girl to see what her body has to offer.
I just began to know that the near by park connecting a school
would be full of legendary ball players, bouncing, dodging, knocking down
the other and pretending that their opponent is the New York City Mayor.

I just began to know that I have many memories of my neighborhood,
some I don't want to remember and some I should.

I just began to know that all the people of all the colors, make up my
neighborhood, and I can only began to wonder, will it change or will it go under.
