2. In The Allegory of the Cave, Plato seems to discuss about truth,
physics, aesthetics, literary criticism, etc. (a) Do research and find
three different interpretations of Plato's Cave. (b) List the links
of each different interpretation to your web site with brief annotations.
(c)After reading , discussing, and analyzing the text, describe your interpretation
in a 250-word essay. Explain why you draw such a conclusion.(The first
draft will be collectd and read by me before you publish your final draft
on the web)
My interpretation of the excerpt of "The Allegory
of the Cave" is that all of the words in the experpt have a meaning,
and all the words, somehow are symbolic. From my understanding, when
Plato talks about the human beings living in an underground den, have their
legs and necks chained so they can not move. However, as they are
chained, above and behind them, a fire is blazing. With this blazing
fire the prisoners see shadows which they probably think are actual people,
but they probably are just illusions from them being in a cave for so long.
If the prisoners are released fom the cave, they
will stand up and look toward the light. For people who have never
seen light, they would be hurt by it as Plato explaine in the excerpt.
However, after awhile they will get used to the light and wil be amazed
by it, realizing that the shadows that they had previously seen were now
realities.
3. Explain how this allegory has changed your way of thinking?(from your reading log?)
4. If there was one thing you have learned from the "Cave" and would
like to apply it to your life, what would it be and why?
