At The End of the 20th Century Many Problems
Challenge the American Society
As we march into the next millennium America faces
many challenges...Challenges that are reminiscent of problems we faced
and conquered in previous years. Compared to other countries America
is a fairly new country. Age wise America is nothing more that a
teenager. However we are still the strongest so despite our youth.
This is possibly one of the most dangerous combonations imaginable, both
youth, and power. When these two elements are combined there is certain
to be problems, and challenges, we are no exception. The youth and
power of our country give americian citizens a certain level of conceit,
and arrogance. This fact, without doubt, contributes to the spread
of things like AIDS. This also makes us take things like juvenile
crime a bit more lightly, because we are Americia, we feel these these
problems will fix themselves, and eventually just go away. Our youth
forces us to try new things. It makes us try to fix problems with
new methods. We have to do things a little different from the rest
of the world so if it works we have something to brag about. When
the stated fact is taken into consideration we have things like welfare,
which is a double edged sword which both helps and hinders our society.
These are just three of the ever growing list of challenges Americia will
face as "we cross that bridge to the 21st century".
A teenage country going through puberty, perhaps
that's why our hormones are in hyper drive. Maybe thats why AIDS
has a bigger body count in our country than Hitler did in Germany.
AIDS is certainly not a condition limited to only Americians. It
is a problem the whole world has to solve together. However, we seem
to be the most effected. As a country we have openly excepted sex
in our everyday lives. We see it on television, we read it in magizines,
we learn it in school, we hear it on songs, it's everywhere. From
the "freelove" generation of the sixties, to the openly explicit
