Memories of Scotland

Pictured at left is the beautiful Lindisfarne Castle. It is located on Holy Island, which is where Christianity was brought to England by a troupe of faithful monks. The castle, which sits atop a volcanic mound, was built in 1550 to defend the island against invading Scotland. That is my beloved Ben standing on the LONG walkway to the castle doors. Above is an idyllic little scene of sailboats awaiting the tide(which rises QUITE rapidly and covers much of the beach completely). The beach was a wild, rugged, windswept place with driftwood and seashells everywhere. The sea breeze felt utterly amazing on my face, and that marvelous place refreshed me like none other. Holy Island is obviously not part of Scotland, but it's where we stopped to rest on our way there.

Pictured at left is the ancient priory found on Holy Island. It was built in the late 11th century by the monks who inhabited it, but legend has it that another priory was built centuries before the one pictured here, and that the monks built over it. That has since been disproved, but evidence does show there was another priory elsewhere on the island. I must give photo credits to Jason Mills who took all three of these lovely pictures while I was off drooling over the castle--perfectly medieval--I fell in love and was ready to move in!

Picture at left is an honest-to-goodness Scottish piper on the streets of Edinburgh. Above right is a picture taken in Stirling. In the distance you can see the William Wallace memorial, and beyond that a most beautiful mountain!

Pictured at left are Jason, Christina, and me posed in front of a sign advertising the chance to win a trip to the USA. Above is a small view of Stirling Castle, which was impressive on the outside, but being rennovated on the inside!
