VIO-LENCE emerged in the mid 80's from the bay area of california.This band included ROB FLYNN from MACHINE HEAD.Their debut album was ETERNAL NIGHTMARE released in 1988. VIO-LENCE toured extensively as opening act for other great bands because they had such promise and talent.MECHANIX/MCA records dropped them but where quickly picked up by Megaforce. In 1990 VIO-LENCE released another classic entitled OPPRESSING THE MASSES. This was my first chance to see the band live.man,this was a kick ass show.it might as well be the best show ive ever been too.The entire floor was a pit! i think it was at the marquee club on 20 something street in NY. After the release of OPPRESSING THE MASSES came out they wanted to get an ep out due to the simple reason of a song called TORTURE TACTICS. Atlantic/Megaforce records didnt quite understand. VIO-LENCE released this ep through CAROLINE RECORDS in 1991.After this ep i lost complete site of the band. a few years later in 1998 i was in london and got into hmv sotre and saw they had another cd out called "NOTHING TO GAIN" .
4/21/2006 - Megaforce Releasing New VIO-LENCE DVD
According to wallsoffire.de, Bay Area thrash legends VIO-LENCE have completed work on a two-disc DVD entitled Blood and Dirt, which tentatively due to be released later in the year through Megaforce. Blood And Dirt was produced and directed by Jerry Allen of Metallian Productions and clocks in at over three and a half hours long. It contains "a ton of live footage spanning the band's entire existence as well as a full-length documentary on the history of the band." It will also contain lots of rare and unreleased footage.
Included in the documentary portion of the DVD will be commentary by all the members of Vio-lence (going back to the DEATH PENALTY days) as well as comments by other Bay Area thrash legends such as DEATH ANGEL, EXODUS and FORBIDDEN. Bay Area historians Ron Quintana and Walter Morgan, legendary band manager Debbie Abono, and the fans will offer their insight as well.
As previously reported, former Vio-lence and current MACHINE HEAD guitarist Phil Demmel recently announced that the DVD will serve as Vio-lence's "final release and function as a band. There will be no more re-releases, reunions or re-anything. We had a blast writing and performing for you and once again, wholeheartedly, thank you all for it."
Also as reported, Megaforce Records will reissue VIO-LENCE's Eternal Nightmare album as a 2CD package on June 28th. It will include the bonus disc Live At Slim's, which was recorded in San Francisco.

This was only their third practice and they sounded like they never stopped playing!! They are pumped!!! You know when you see and hear a band and it makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up on end? That's an understatement in this case! (Save the homo jokes- Ha ha! I'm already one step ahead of you! Haha!!) The fans won't be disappointed because Vio-lence are ON IT!!! They played with the intensity of the Eternal Era band we all remember!! Fucking A!! I'm blown away!!! Of course they made a few mistakes but mostly it was because of technical issues and not their playing! Perry played like Lombardo and Killian sounded totally aggressive and pissed off! Demmel and Vegas just ripped and Deen was great as well. Damn...I'm in awe! Of course we documented the whole thing for the DVD extras and for anything Vio wishes to release down the road. Vio-lence are back with a vengeance!!!! I won't tell you the whole set list because it should be a surprise but I can say that it was a set list very similar to what we asked them to play. I was totally stoked!!! TOTAL AGGRESSION - BAY AREA STYLE!!!!

I actually just heard Eternal Nightmare and Oppressing the Masses for the first time a few days ago... I think Oppressing is decent, but Eternal Nightmare is fucking incredible. If they play that whole thing live I will be more than happy!!! Maybe throw in Gutter Slut and/or Dicks of Death, but just Bodies on Bodies, Kill on Command, Eternal Nightmare, and a few others from that album would be classic! Money money MONEEEYYY!!!! I got two vids from 1988, they perform practically the whole album each time... fucking awesome show!!

I cleaned up the sound pretty nicely on the Vio-Lence shows... I'm also getting a third vid with another short Vio-Lence show (they tend to be under 30 minutes since they were opening for Testament.) The total will be around 73 minutes, on one nice CDR... I am willing to trade that, or even send you one for free if you don't have anything to trade. I was fortunate enough to catch all 3 of their east coast appearances (7/88 with TESTAMENT (1st night of VIOLENCE's 1st tour) , 11/88 with VOIVOD and 9/90 headlining!) Yeah yeah some of you west coast fuckers used to see them all the time I know I know (lucky fuckers) Im just grateful to have seen them back in the day. Anyway to this day I cant think of another band who has as much energy and aggression on stage as VIOLENCE!!!
