Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Epsilon Tau Chapter, was chartered in 1965 by a group of eleven dynamic New York City collegiate women. These young students, who truly had something to offer, dreamed of supporting the programs they often heard so much about.
The chapter is city-wide, encompassing the majority of four-year colleges in Manhattan and the Bronx (with the exception of Columbia University, whose chapter is campus-based). Epsilon Tau implements Delta Sigma Theta's Five-Point programmatic thrust through programs including, but not limited to: the G.E.M.S. of the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy; Minisink Townhouse, the chapter's Project Cherish; Sister's Uptown Bookstore, the chapter's Adopt-A-Black-Business project; and various seminars and workshops.
The members of the Epsilon Tau Chapter pride themselves in ennobling the high ideals and standards of Delta Sigma Theta. This is perhaps one of the reasons why many have chosen not only traditional but also non-traditional careers. Since 1965, these women have set forth to choose careers in medicine, law, education, management, law enforcement, marketing, publishing, journalism, acting, public administration, mortuary science, media, engineering, human resources, accounting, sales, finance, and computer technology.
A true Delta will always live up to the ideals of sisterhood, scholarship and service. The Epsilon Tau chapter will continue to embrace qualified young collegiate women who personify strong moral character, and a willingness to excel.
