Socorro Island

Socorro Island is located 260 miles from the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula and Cabo San Lucas. A full day and night of travel is required to reach the island. The main attraction here are the large manta rays which have a wingspan of up to 15 feet across. The waters also have many hammerheads, white tips, silver tips, silkys, and galapagos sharks.

Unfortunately, two weeks after these photos were taken, commercial fisherman killed between 2,000 and 4,000 sharks, and at least one large manta. The number, if any, of dolphins killed is unknown. Here are links to web sites with the full story and photos.
