ECG Technology Corporation is devoted to the application of the latest technology to the problem of more accurately analyzing and diagnosing heart disease from the electrical signals recorded on the surface of the human body.

  • ECG Technology Corporation was founded in 1998 by Charles Olson. As a beginning point in this process, he created a 3 dimensional display of ECG vectors that bring together a world of information about the electrical excitation of the heart muscles and their recovery. This is a fundamental characteristic of the heart ECG that has been missing from the techniques available to the doctors. 3-Dimensional displays are readily available on standard computers and can be utilized to display the ECG in this manner. It can be shown that most of the disease states of the heart are more easily and more accurately recognized by a 3D display. However, it will take education and demonstration of this capability to convince the medical community of this fact.

    Mr. Olson has been a scientist and engineer since 1949 in the fields of:

    1. Medical Electronics: Nerve stimulation, ECG Systems and analysis, ultrasonic applications. He holds the patent for the first 3D Vectorcardiograph.
    2. Data Acquisition: A/D converters, low-noise amplifiers, analog and digital filters. He started a company – Olson Research and Manufacturing and developed the first Digital Depth Sounder for small boats.
    3. Underwater Acoustics: sonar systems, signal processing and displays. He was responsible for the development of the first digital sonar for the US Navy and holds two patents connected with this project.
    4. Communication Systems: spread spectrum techniques, frequency hoping.

    Duke Clinical Research Institute

    Galen S. Wagner is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Wagner has been physician, clinical investigator and medical educator for 35 years. His primary clinical and clinical research roles have focused on patients with acute myocardial infarction; and he has co-authored over 300 scientific papers on this problem. He has investigated the diagnostic value of the electrocardiogram, and now writes the Marriott textbook Practical Electrocardiography. He is a founding member of the International Society of Computerized Electrocardiography. Dr. Wagner's primary educational roles are the mentoring of young clinical investigators and the facilitation of Socratic Round Table discussions in which he trained with Mortimer Adler. He has developed multiple research scholarship programs to support mentoring of physician scientists. Dr. Wagner has been a pioneer in medical informatics as a co-founder of the Cardiovascular Databank and developer of systems to automate the clinical encounter for medical record documentation and outcome assessment. He has co-developed a program of workshops for teaching outcomes research skills to medical trainees and practitioners, and the MEDLAI, a medical leadership evaluation method.

    Professor of Medicine, Univ. of So. Calif.

    Dr. Selvester has been involved in medical research for most of his 46 years of practice in the field of cardiology. He is presently the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Electrocardiology. In his early work he was responsible for original contributions to the computer simulations of the electrocardiogram and the first program to accomplish this goal. These simulations were used to study the effects of myocardial infarcts, of various sizes, ventricular hypertrophics, conductiond defects, and their interactions on the surface ECGs amd VCGs. From these early models he developed an effective tool to evaluate the ECG and VCG changes from the complex interactions of all combinations of MIs by size and location, hypertrophic and interventricular conductions defects. These studies led to the QRS scoring system which is in use today for estimating the location and size of MI. These are only highlights of a extremely active career and the publication of numerous papers in the field of cardiology.
