Other Comix Work

Those Too Negative minis I put out myself, and House of 12 is it's own ongoing thing. But you think those are the only places to find a Jenny Gonzalez comic? Hells no! I reckon you wouldn't be here if you couldn't get enough of me ;) , so here's a page dedicated to some of the other intrepid souls who've cut me a break and published my art. Give 'em their props!!!

9/11: EMERGENCY RELIEF

Within two days of The Cursed Event, Alternative Comics publisher Jeff Mason was organizing a benefit book and asked me to contribute my autographical account of how I pretty much walked out of a mental hospital and into a full blown national emergency. Given the subject matter and the need to do it while the shock was still pretty fresh, I'd have to say this was the hardest thing I've ever had to draw. A Japanese translation of this also appeared in a magazine over there called The Book and the Computer, and in a Japanese book called The New Frontier of American Comics.

BRUTARIAN

This Maryland based magazine, devoted to "art -brut", exploitation films, underground music, and all the finer things in life ran the often-seen Bongwater Buddhists strip in their 34th issue, before anyone else did!

BROAD APPEAL

This is probably one of my oldest comics in publication - it's from the Friends of Lulu Broad Appeal anthology. Friends of Lulu is an organization dedicated to increasing the number of women in comics, both as creators and readers. There's also a short interview about Mz. Pakman with me and Abby Denson.

FLAMING FIRE ILLUSTRATED BIBLE

Another ongoing thing I've participated in is The Flaming Fire Illustrated Bible project. (Since it comes up, here's an Instant FAQ: "But Jenny, you're a Thelemic Wiccan!" "Yeah, ever hear of diversity?") Spearheaded by Patrick Hambrecht of the eclectic group Flaming Fire, this is an attempt to create the world's largest illustrated Bible by having a piece of art created for every single passage. Check out my index(Every participant has one) to see my continuing interpretations like this one for I Samuel 6:4:
Or this one for my all-time most head-messing verse, Deuteronomy 22:29 (behind the link for sheer nastiness.)

HILLBILLY SEX

Nick Jeffrey is probably one of the most colorful characters ever to win a Xeric, and his invite for me to do a strip for issue #6 of Hillbilly Sex was without fail the most colorful solicitation I've ever recieved! I did a two page "Too Negative" story called "homophobes" in there, which probably casts no insight on the problem, but sure as hell milks it for some good laffs!

KATALOGUE

Katalogue is a Canadian art magazine that I did a one pager for in their "Self-Service Issue" I never got one though, but here's their website for more info: http://www.katalogue.ca/main.cfm

LEGAL ACTION COMICS

I cast the infamous Dirty Danny as an escaped mental patient in Vol 1, was heavily medicated through Vol 2, and have work currently pending for Vol 3. Learn more about The Dirty One and why he needs so much Legal Action at http://www.dannyhellman.com

PUSSY

Pussy! magazine is put out a few times a year by former Mz. Pakman drummer, P5!, who now lives in Hawaii. A satirical and artsy sendup of typical fashion magazines, with articles, collages, and comics.

RIVERWURST

From out of the Midwest, Riverwurst is a comix and writing anthology spearheaded by Tea Krulos. Tea emailed invitiing me to do the back cover for Issue #4:

And a 4 page Too Negative story in issue #5, with special guest star George W. Bush! (He was the theme of the issue)

T.P.

This was an anthology put compiled by Sophie Crumb for the annual Mocca Art Festival in June of 2005
