General Information

The Bermuda Collectors Society, a not-for-profit corporation, is an organization dedicated to the study and exchange of information concerning all aspects of the philately of Bermuda. Since being founded in 1986 when a small group of founding members pledged their knowledge and financial support, the Society has grown to a worldwide membership of over 200.

Although many BCS members correspond directly with their fellow members, the principal link with other society members is through the issues of the Bermuda Post, the society's quarterly journal.

Bermuda Post

The Bermuda Post articles are extensive, covering the gamut of the island's philatelic spectrum, with typical issues containing articles ranging from the classics and watermark varieties to collateral material and the historical background of new issues. Other frequently reported topics include military usage, censors, first flights, the Bermuda Railway, postal history, Revenue usage, Paquebot cancels, first day cancels and picture post cards. Each issue also reports the philatelic events that have occurred on the island during the past three months along with a schedule of upcoming events.

Bermuda Post has been awarded a Silver-Bronze Medal at CAPEX, a Reserve Grand Award at COLPEX, a Vermeil Medal at a National APS Convention and Silver Medal at the 112th APS Stampshow.

An inventory of past issues is currently available. The articles are not only timely but of historical and continuing interest.

Meetings

The Society holds an annual meeting in the spring of each year, open to all members. Several meetings have been held in Stamford, Connecticut and others in conjunction with major stamp shows such as CAPEX and NAPEX. Each has been attended by an average of thirty members (and some spouses) from the U.K., Bermuda and much of the U.S. Beginning with informal social events on Friday, the balance of the weekend is reserved for informative presentations, auction, swap-meets and a dinner.

In addition to the annual meeting, many informal gatherings are held around the world to discuss and research Bermuda's rich history with new found friends in the Society. Many of these meetings are held in association with major stamp shows and usually include an informal dinner. A gathering was held in Bermuda several years ago which included post office tours provided by the Bermuda Post Office. A membership roster is included annually with the spring issue of the Bermuda Post.

A meeting in late April or early May in the New York Metro area is in the planning stages. Some consideration is being made to a one week cruise to Bermuda in 2002.

Membership Information
