Release Date: Christmas, 2002
(moved back six months form
May/June, 2002; as per an
announcement by Joel Silver at
the 2000 MTV Movie Awards)
Title Note: the upcoming movie is entitled,
besides just being The Matrix 2, The Matrix Reloaded.
MPAA Rating: The first film was
rated R, so it is very likely that
the sequels will be as well.
Most Questionable Returning
Cast: Hugo Weaving (A. Smith),
Joe Pantoliano (Cypher) (Note:
Anyone who's seen The Matrix
may question whether these
particular characters are going to
return in the sequels; and may
very well be correct. However...
we can all think of historical
precedents for the return of
fictional characters you could've
sworn would never come back
again. Considering the fictional
world in which The Matrix takes
place, there are any number of
ways these characters could
come back if it is part of the
Wachowski's plans for the
series.)
Based upon: This of course the
sequel to the popular 1999 film,
The Matrix. It's to be followed
by The Matrix 3 and (sort of)
The Matrix Anime Prequel.
Filming: Production on these
sequels is expected to start in
Australia in the Fall of 2000. The
schedule of actual filming for the
two movies is estimated at
around 250 days (which for the
impatient, rules out the possibility
of them making it to theaters by
the summer of 2001 because
post-production on these movies
will probably be a massive,
year-long project in itself).

The Matrix premise is that our world is actually a virtual reality computer program called
The Matrix, and that we are really living in the 22nd century. Artificial Intelligent machines have taken over
the planet. As a result of the war between humans and machines, the Earth is a sunless place in the
throes of what looks like a permanent nuclear winter. The machines had depended on solar power,
but now they have found an alternate source of energy: human beings themselves. Human beings
generate both heat and electricity, and the machines have found a way to harvest both. To keep
humans under control and to provide stimuli that enhance a body's electrical output, the machines
created The Matrix.
"You take the BLUE PILL, you wake up in your own bed, and you BELIEVE WHAT YOU WANT TO.
You take the RED PILL, you stay in WONDERLAND, and I'll show you HOW DEEP THE RABBIT HOLE GOES."
"Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment. But you
humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way
you can survive is to spread to another area. Another organism on this planet that follows that same pattern. Do you
know what it is? "
"The Matrix is everywhere, it's all around us, here even in this room. You can see it out your window, or on your
television. You feel it when you go to work, or go to church or pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your
eyes to blind you from the truth."
Cast: Keanu Reeves (Neo),
Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity),
Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus)
(in talks)
Agents Brown and Jones: Paul
Goddard, Robert Taylor (There's
not really much to say about
them... except that I hope we
continue to see them as a pair.
Their brief scenes together
seemed to show a natural
teamwork; especially when
they're scared.
Premise: Nothing official has
been announced. However, we
do know that these films will be
sequels (not prequels), and that
we will see Neo as a superhuman
figure capable of amazing feats.
(as seen in The Matrix near the
end; he demonstrated flight,
time-control, super-speed, etc.)
Much more than that is probably
just rumor and speculation at this
point. One thing that is
known is that this film will most
likely end with a cliffhanger that
leads directly to The Matrix 3.
