CONTROL THE CENTER

The four-by-four section of squares in the center of the board

is the prime real estate in chess,

and by controlling these "Sweet Sixteen," you control the game.

For example, moving your king's pawn or queen's pawn forward two squares

is a great way to begin competing for the central area.

Continue by attacking the middle squares with your knights or bishops.

By dominating the center of the playing area,

you can quickly attack or defend on either side,

keeping your opponent constantly on the rebound.
