Another Season, Yet Another Title for Jeter

Derek Jeter is becoming accustomed to standing in the Yankee clubhouse soaked in champagne as he celebrates another championship.

For Derek Jeter, it's another season, another champagne-soaked victory.

Last night, he partied World Championship style for the third time in four years. Life just keeps getting sweeter for New York's glamour boy.

"This is not an easy thing to do," Jeter insisted. "This is great. This is special. Every year is a different story, every championship is great. "This team has been through a lot this year and this was a little bit sweeter."

Jeter, 25, went 1-for-4 last night, stealing twice while scoring a run. At 6-for-17, he was the only Yankee to hit safely in all four games of this series. Jeter has now hit safely in 17 straight postseason games, tying Hank Bauer's record set from 1956 to 1958.

"Atlanta has a great team and three of these games could have gone either way but we were able to come up with the victories," Jeter said. "That is what happens in the postseason."

Teammate Chad Curtis said Jeter is incredibly fortunate to do what so few have done.

"There are some guys who have been a Yankee for three, four, five years who have no idea that other teams are not like this," said Curtis, who played for four teams before becoming a Yankee himself. "It's not out there very much."

Even Joe Torre talked about how special it is to accomplish what he and Jeter and the rest of the Yankees have done.

"To do it three times in four years, that's far beyond any dream," Torre said shortly after having champagne dumped on him by Jeter.

In only his fourth major-league season, Jeter is a veteran at winning championships. He hardly knows anything else.

"This feels great man," Jeter said. "I can't say enough about this team. Going into the season, expectations were unfair. We still went about our business in the same fashion."

"We've won 25 championships in this century, that's one every four years," Jeter added.

If you count in Jeter years, it's three every four years so far.
