Steve Sutcliffe's GREY MATTER

Featuring These Original Tunes:

Well, 16 years of guitar-playing have finally paid off; my music will finally be immortalized on my very own professionally-recorded CD! No, there are no radio hits, nor will the disc be available in stores - hell, I'm not even in a band. But a small run will be ready sometime around the first of April, 2000 (how appropriate, eh?) for distribution to family and those who aided in the project, and possibly for sale in limited quantities for those interested in hearing and supporting the original music of an aspiring nobody LOL! Seriously, though, I've been wanting to do this for probably a half-dozen years now, but always lacked the money and, more importantly, sufficient material, for such a project. Then, last fall, I met some wonderful human beings who made my dreams possible (thanks are due Kenz and Bob :). I got to go to an awesome digital recording studio on the Syracuse University campus and lay down some tracks (all but tunes 4 and 7 on the list above), which are instrumentals for a single guitar. These are pieces which I've had kicking around in my head for years in some cases, and it felt very satisfying to extract them from the cobweb-infested obscurity of my mind and put them into tangible form. I recorded the guitar and vocal tracks to "Lioness" and "Unmade Bed of Dreams" in the late winter of this year at Todd Hobin Studios, also in Syracuse. With a single guitar track as the only instrumentation, and having vocals on just two tracks, it took a lot of creativity on my part to try to fill up all the space that stereo gives. Also, those who know my taste for heavier music will be somewhat shocked to learn that everything is played on the 'clean' channel of a small Fender amp plugged into a Stratocaster for that ultra-smooth, grit-free tone. The overall mood of the tunes is rather gloomy and downcast, I must admit, which is one of the reasons for the title. If you like what you've heard about the CD thus far, and are interested in purchasing a copy, email me at the address below. The price is $8 (slightly more if the disc needs to be shipped), which is less than a buck a tune, and a damn good deal for a CD which runs just over forty minutes. Also, if you'd just like to talk music in general, feel free to contact me at the email address below. Also, please take the guitarist poll, and be sure to sign my guestbook :)
