The Forebrain
The Forebrain is the largest part of the brain, and is also the most highly developed portion of the brain. It is composed of 5 parts:
- The Thalamus- which relays and translates information from all of the senses except smell, to higher levels of the brain.
- The Hypothalamus- Regulates the piutary gland and in charge of basic drives such as temperature, feeding, sexual behavior, rage and thirst.
- Corpus Callosum- Enormous communication network that connects the right and left cerebral hemispheres
- Limbic System- Related structure that control emotion, motivation, and memory. It contains the:
- Amygdala- A structure that becomes active whenever we encounter anything new or unexpected
- Hippocampus- is instrumental in transferring factual information from short-term memory to long-term memory
- The Cerebrum- responsible for complex mental activities. Its outer surface is the Cereberal Cortex and is divide into two hemispheres. And contains four major lobes.
