COMING SOON - I swear! - Haiku from Calculus class, more pictures, and hopefully some fun stuff to download.
My name is Jessica. I'm not famous and I don't really have anything revolutionary to say. How auspicious of me to post little tidbits of my life on the web, you might think. Well, maybe so. But you're here, aren't you? Take a look around my little world.
Some more info about me: I was born in Englewood, NJ at 12:15 AM on March 9, 1981 - which makes me a Pisces. I am of Chinese descent. My father is from Hong Kong, my mother is from Thailand. They met at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL. I have an older brother named Kevin, who is 22, and a younger sister, Kiira, who is 12. I grew up and currently reside in northern New Jersey, the armpit of America, in a little town about 10 minutes north of New York City. I attended high school in Riverdale, New York (that's a euphemism for "da boogie- down Bronx") at Vanity Fair magazine's 08/97 pick for Harvard University's feeder school. We called ourselves the Horace Mann School, Ho Mann for short. This six-year (grades 7-12) stint at Ho Mann was preceded by a nine-year elementary education at the lovely, prestigious, and sheltered-to-the-point-of-delusion Elisabeth Morrow School located on the East Hill of Englewood, NJ. Next year, I am bound for Barnard College at Columbia University, where my temporary plans are to major in English or Linguistics.
If I were to describe myself in a positive manner, I would call myself: creative, open, liberal- minded, and a loyal friend. If I were to describe myself from a negative point of view, I would call myself: hypersensitive, bitter, indecisive, and unable to push myself in an area that has not sparked my interest. My hobbies and interests include writing, dance, theater, music, the arts in general, skiing, and travel. In high school, I was co-president of my senior class under the ideology that we were not politicians - we were administrative liaisons who knew how to raise money. I co-founded and edited Mental Boom, a literary magazine based on real-life experience with my good friend Erica, samples of whose writing can be found here. I was a member of the Varsity Gymnastics team for five years which culminated in our finally becoming AAIS league champions - GO LIONS! I was also an active copy-editor of our school's weekly newspaper, The Record, and our monthly political journal, The Horace Mann Review. Both publications have been awarded honors from the Columbia Scholastic Press. Although I hated the stressful atmosphere at high school, I was able to take some highly interesting courses in women's history and the writings of James Joyce.
