PoKeMoN CaRd GB

You may have heard about the new Pokémon card game released here in the States by Wizards of the Coast. In Japan, that card game has become so popular that they re-released it as a Gameboy Color title, Pokémon Card GB! Of course the Gameboy version has added a few things to make 1-player gaming a little more interesting, but other than that it's pretty much Pokémon TCG. Your goal is to become a Pokémon Card Master by defeating others in Pokémon Clubs around the overworld map. You'll be able to buy items, learn new abilities, link up to challenge a friend, or challenge club members to battles as you progress through the game.

To everyone's dismay, none of the characters from the original game (i.e. Ash, Brock, Misty, Professor Oak, and Gary) are in Pokémon Card GB. Hopefully if and when this game is released here in the U.S., Nintendo will bring back some of these familiar faces. The good news is, however, all 150 Pokémon can be found in card form throughout the game. There are also a few familiar sights as well such as link clubs, PCs to store your decks, etc.

The cards in the game are slightly different from the U.S. cards, but are similar enough to understand and use. Your 1st battle is also a tutorial for those of you who have not had the chance to play the addictive card game. The strategy is easy to pick up, yet challenging to master so there should be a good deal of replay value to the game.

It's still unknown as to whether or not the game will be released here in the States, but it looks hopeful. If the card game sells well enough here (which it is) we'll probably get this game sometime next year.
