Waiting for Hubby to return from his walk in our village; decided to write while I have the chance.

I’m having trouble with the mouse; I think it needs new batteries. I get so frustrated when I find the minute to use this forsaken machine and something doesn’t work! I can get around with the tracker on the lap top, but I’m slow and not very accurate with it. I’m better off with the mouse and the keyboard.

In addition to that frustration, earlier this morning, when I was on the internet and the mouse WAS working, I wrote a nice long e-mail to my daughter and when I hit “send”, I got bumped off the internet. Grrr! Hopefully, that problem will be solved Friday.

MID-DAY MUSINGS

I began this new day with a cuppa and Morning Prayer, in my Catbird seat. In spite of the July date, the temperature is more like early October, and it was COLD in here! Rather than turn on the furnace, I wrapped up in one of my little “blankies” for reading and writing in my paper journal.

After Morning Prayer, around 8 a.m., I went outside and watered my Earth Boxes. Even though we have had a lot of rain, the black plastic covers on the boxes don’t let the water in; they have to be watered from below. The wind from the lake gathers speed coming up the hill and across the meadow, so the hanging plants need regular watering.

I don’t mind this chore, especially early in the morning. I like to be out with the birds that are eating me out of house and home. Where did they all come from this year? We have several more House Finch families, and the Purple Finches have also multiplied. They make a wonderful display, jockeying for position with the Goldfinches. I filled the Hummer feeder, also, as the House Finches love that nectar.

Once DB finally got up and we each had a delicious Wegman’s muffin for breakfast, I put an elegant beef stew coming in the crockpot. I added a cup of my Shiraz and a tablespoon of Herbs de Provence to the ingredients. I am a vegetarian (eating fish, and sometimes chicken, however), but I can still appreciate the wonderful aroma of a good beef stew. It’s making me hungry, and who knows when DB will return?

Housework came next; in this little coach it is a snap and I was done in under an hour. I treated myself to a rest in the Catbird Seat and was surprised with a brilliant Baltimore Oriole visiting the Hummer feeder. He tried all the ports on the feeder a couple times, then sat on the feeder for a few minutes, surveying the land. I noticed that the orange feathers under his neck are such a deep color they are almost red. Beautiful!

I love this kind of going-nowhere-but-still-being-productive day. And I also love my job. Such a dichotomy! So, I stay busy working part time at church, but really appreciate these rare days when I have absolutely no place to go.

I’m thawing out a cod fillet; I’ll make a fish chowder for me a little later (I have to wait for the stew to be done, as it has to sit on the cover of the stove), adding a little fresh tarragon from my lettuce/herb Earth Box. I picked a big bunch of lettuce earlier, along with the other goodies like arugala, lamb’s quarters, baby spinach, feathery endive, and it’s crisping in the fridge. A couple slices of tomatoes (not mine, yet, but they are growing) and a few of cucumbers (also not mine, yet, but there are little ones on the plants), and this will make a great salad.

Now, I’m REALLY hungry! I guess I’ll try to upload this into Angelfire, and hope that DB gets here soon!

Later, July 10, 2009. I was bumped off the internet before I could post this. Now we have the new internet service, which is wonderful, so I'm very happy.

Life is Good, on a day home (and with the new internet service). Thanks be to God.
