Donald A. P. LeCourt, N1APY Ex-K1PYP, KP4BQS, WA3ELJ


Donald A. P. LeCourt, 71, of Fitchburg, MA died unexpectedly at his home Thursday, February 3rd, 2000.

Born December 4, 1928, in Fitchburg, he was the son of Alfred P. and Gertrude (Gravelle) LeCourt.

Don was a Chief Communications Technician in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1968, after 20 years service. Early in his Naval career Don saw duty in the Asiatic-Pacific theater during the Korean Conflict.

Additional duty stations where Naval Security Group Activity, Guam, Naval Security Group Activity, Winter Harbor, ME, Naval Security Group Activity, Keflavik, Iceland, Naval Security Group Activity, Sabana Seca, Puerto Rico, Naval Communications Station, Cheltenham, MD and Naval Training Center, Bainbridge, MD.

Don was an avid ham radio operator thriving on his ability to maintain contact with his many former shipmates over the airwaves. He also joined in on many local net operations around the New England area and became well-known throughout the region for his wit, helpfulness and courteous manner.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Evelyn R. (Elwell) LeCourt; a son, Alfred P. LeCourt of Peoria, AZ; and three step-grandchildren.
