Maxwell D. Carlton, K2GK
Max Carlton, died February 19th at the Steuben County
Health Facility near his home of Prattsburgh, NY. He was 80 years old, born March 22nd, 1918 in Carthage, Illinois and was the youngest of ten children.
Max was a licensed and avid ham radio operator since his youth and was always proud of his association with
the hobby.
During WWII, and like many with prior communications experience, he served in the Signal Corps. Upon returning from the service, he accepted a position with
Fairchild in the Guided Missile Division. In 1954, Max decided to slow down the pace and bought a farm in Prattsburgh. He soon learned farming was not a guarantee of steady income; so, he went back to organized work at the Westinghouse facility in nearby Bath, NY.
A few years later, a more interesting job opening at Empire Telephone Company drew Max to his last employment position where he worked until retiring in
1983.
His wife of 55 years, Ruth, survives.
