Electronic Mail (E- Mail)

Vocabulary

E- mail is one of the most popular features of the Internet. It helps companies communicate across the globe or within a building. Products and services are sold over e-mail, and everyday citizens of the world are able to communicate with anyone anywhere for free. Friendships have been made by Pen-paling on E-mail and even marriages have resulted from this wonder of the internet.
What the future holds for this service is unclear. It clearly is causing a decrease in traditional mail, now nic- named Snailmail, due to it's slow pace. Rumors have surfaced that the US Government is considering placing a fee or "tax" on E-mail, I would urge all to write to your representives to express your desire to see this internet feature kept free and uncensored for all.

Once you have your web-TV set up, you will want to customize your E-mail account. This is done by selecting the "SETTINGS" box on the left of the E-mail page. The Settings Options are as Follows.

1) EXTRAS: Click on this, and you will see 3 boxes to check. The first one will Give you the Storage capabilities for SAVED, SENT & DISCARDED mail. The 2nd box will allow you at Add the original message someone sent to you when you reply to them. This is done by clicking the button at the bottom of the letter you write to them in Reply. The button will say "Include original message". The 3rd box will add a C.C. line to your mail you write, for "Carbon Copies" It also adds a box to the left named "REPLY ALL" this can be used to reply to every name that appears at the top of an e-mail you RECIEVE.

2) LISTING: This option allows you to have the mail listed on your mail page by either the Oldest mail first, or Newest mail first. I would reccommend NEWEST first, for ease of accessing your in-coming mail.

3) MESSAGE LIGHT: This option allows you to choose a time of day, you want the machine to check for new mail. Example: have the unit set to check mail while you are at work, so when you walk in the house the RED light will be on, telling you "You've Got Mail".

4)SIGNATURE: This option allows you to have a greeting at the end of all your e-mail you send out. It can be as simple as, "Write back Soon" or you can add Backgrounds, music and graphics with the use of HTML codes. This of course is for the more advanced User.

5) Mail Name: This allows you to choose if you want your REAL name listed after your E-mail Address in the heading of E-mail you SEND out.

6) REMOTE MAIL: This allows you to "pick up" mail from another server you use. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Other E-Mail Tips and Hints.

Here is a final list of things you can do with E-mail and how to do them.

ADDRESSES: Save addresses from Friends by "Highlighting" their address at the Top of a Letter THEY sent to you. Then press RETURN, a screen will appear asking you if you want to Add this person to your ADDRESS BOOK. Pressing yes, will store their address in your Book. Next time you want to write to them, you just HIGHLIGHT "to:" at the top of the Blank page, and press RETURN, and pick thier name from the list that appears. Press RETURN and their address will be printed into the letter for you.

CLEANUP: You can erase, or move, multiple letters at once by choosing this option. A list will appear of your mail in the MAIL LIST. Check off which mail you want to move by Hiting return as each box is highlighted, or you can mark all of the mail at once by clicking on MARK ALL. Next choose from DISCARD, or SAVE. All mail that has been checked will be moved to your choice.

VID-CAPS:With the WEB-TV PLus unit you are able to send family and friends photos, from your Camcorder. You can also freeze and capture pictures from TV and send them in E-Mail. To send a photo, you will need a Camcorder, and a Video Cable. Connect the Cable from the Video OUT jack on your Camcorder to the Video IN jack on the back of the unit. Next turn on the camcorder. Now go to the WRITE section in E-mail and select PHOTO from the list on the left. A blue screen will appear in the middle of your Tv screen. On top you will see a box marked "ADD TO MESSAGE", at the bottom of the blue box you will see a box marked "FREEZE". Next to the Freeze box you will see a button that says TV/VIDEO. Be sure the button is set for VIDEO. Move the Yellow Highlighter so the Freeze box is highlighted. Now turn on your camcorder to play. The video will show in the blue box. Choose the scene you want and press RETURN while the Freeze box is highlighted. This will freeze the video, if you are unhappy with the shot, click the "Freeze" box again and try for a better shot. Once you are happy with the shot frozen, then highlight the "Add To Message" box and hit return. This will add it to your e-mail.
