An NYPD officer tried to score a kilo of cocaine in Rhode Island only to find the dealers were federal agents, law enforcement sources said.
Jose Delvalle, 24, was arrested about 4:30 p.m. yesterday in Warwick, R.I. He was charged with conspiracy to possess narcotics and using a firearm during a drug deal.

The arrest was part of an ongoing investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration. At least one NYPD internal affairs investigator was sent to Rhode Island to assist federal authorities, sources said.

A high-ranking law enforcement source said no other cops were involved. The investigation had been going on for at least several weeks, the source said.

Delvalle was in federal custody last night awaiting arraignment today. The patrol officer, assigned to the 42nd Precinct in the Bronx, has been suspended without pay.

Delvalle was carrying his department-issued 9-mm. handgun at the time of his arrest, police said.
