A former Bronx cop pleaded guilty yesterday to stealing drugs. The officer, Kendall Currie, escaped prison time but was forced to resign from the Police Department as part of a plea deal.

Currie, 35, of the Bronx, pleaded guilty to petty larceny and official misconduct and received a conditional discharge from Bronx Criminal Court Justice Harold Adler, authorities said.

Currie, who joined the force in September 2000, admitted that in January 2003 he stole "approximately 13 clear plastic bags" of a substance alleged to be heroin that had been seized from a suspect, authorities said.

Currie did not turn over the material to the property clerk or submit paperwork, officials said.

A voucher that was submitted after the seizure indicated that only one plastic bag had been confiscated.

The crimes, both misdemeanors, occurred at the NYPD's PSA 8 Housing Bureau headquarters at 2794 Randall Ave., where Currie was then assigned.

Currie, who had been placed on modified assignment, resigned from the department Tuesday and surrendered to NYPD Internal Affairs detectives Wednesday morning.
