WHAT DO YOU SEE, WHEN YOU SEE ME?
(My struggle with Lyme disease,
reflections of the heart)
by Kenyatta
WHAT DO YOU SEE, WHEN YOU SEE ME?
A strong frame
A pleasant smile
A friend/protector
A listener
A capable person
WHAT YOU DON'T SEE WHEN YOU SEE ME
The chronic fatique that disables me
The determination to stretch stiff joints in the mornings
The silent tears, so no one will hear
The irregular heartbeat while sitting still
The fight for concentration
The pain from migraines
The struggle to remember
The strong will that forces me to go on
The silent prayer for the next day to be better than the last
With each passing day, I sit down and say why can't they see
what's happening to me?
I had a loved one say to me, you have a disease that I can't see, but
the pain in your eyes has touched me.
Is there anything I can do, to take
this pain away from you?
Understanding and compassion is all I need, as long as I live there's a
chance for me; to live the life I use to have without this disease in my
path.
The battle I fight is one of survival, and behind the smile is a life of
turmoil. So the struggle continues for life is precious, and so I stay
strong, to save my dreams
and carry on.
So, the next time you take a look at me, look beyond what you can see, to
see the person that's inside of me.
THE SADDEST THINGS OF TONGUE AND PEN, TO KNOW THE THINGS THAT MIGHT HAVE
BEEN.
