Basically, you have one mind with two parts. The conscious mind and the subconscious mind. To fully understand how you can change unwanted behavior using hypnosis you must first understand the difference between your two minds. First, let's look at the conscious mind.

is the part of your mind that operates more like a computer. It remembers. IT REMEMBERS EVERYTHING. Your subconscious mind does not make judgments or decisions, it only stores and recalls every piece of information ever put into it... no right, no wrong, only data.

Your subconscious mind also controls your pulse, your blood pressure, how fast your hair grows (or how fast it falls out), and about a million other things every day.


HERE'S WHERE HYPNOSIS COMES IN

Your CONSCIOUS MIND makes up only 10% of your total mind, while the SUBCONSCIOUS MIND makes up the other 90%. What this means is that when someone makes a decision (a task that is done by the conscious mind) to lose weight, quit smoking, or change some other type of unwanted behavior, that decision is being made by only 10% of the total mind - the CONSCIOUS MIND.

The SUBCONSCIOUS MIND is unaware that a new behavior is being introduced and basically rejects it. Let me put it another way...

You make the decision to lose weight, so You tell your conscious mind "This time it will work for me - so help me!" So you don't eat those cookies, or cake, or snacks.

Then a few days (or hours) go by and the SUBCONSCIOUS MIND begins to ask "Where are my cookies? Why am I putting myself through this... and where are my cookies?"

Needless to say, the 90% of the SUBCONSCIOUS MIND usually wins over the 10% of the CONSCIOUS MIND, and you get to eat your cookies.
