A Little Bit About Me
While I was born in Connecticut, I grew up in Queens, NY my entire life. And part of city life is the inescapable reality that cars are everywhere around you. My dad was always into cars; he used to be a mechanic in Brooklyn. I remember him having a '68 Javelin when I was real little. I remember it being obnoxiously loud and obnoxiously green. We had a constant revolving door of cars. A '71 Polara. An Aspen. An Omni. A Cutlass Ciera. A Renault wagon that was a complete piece of garbage. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few. My dad was always fixing something and I always wanted to know what it was. So I can't say whether it was city life or my dad that flipped that tomboy switch and started my love for cars. But it was something somewhere. I was a little girl who was nuts about the General Lee. And the Torino from Starsky and Hutch. And an innumerable amount of other cars. And even though I've gotten my share of crap from men about it in my adult life for liking cars, it hasn't stopped me. That whole "girls shouldn't get dirty messing with cars" theory doesn't apply to me. Sure, I wear makeup. I can be girly sometimes. But I've been up to my elbows in oil and grease, too. I met my husband because of my first Monte Carlo way back in '98; he had noticed this very webpage and we started bantering back and forth about our respective Montes (of which he had already had quite a few). It was awesome to me to finally be able to talk to a guy about cars. For hours. We stayed really good friends for many years before something finally just clicked between the two of us. We got married in 2004. And here I am today, with a wonderful husband and a little boy who is as equally crazy about cars as we are. And all beause of one Monte Carlo. What else about me? I'm also an artist in my spare time when I'm not occupied with being a Mom. Oddly enough, I don't draw cars. LOL. |
