The Dents are a band out of Staten Island , New York. They formed 2 , or 3 years ago ( who the hell really cares), in high school. The origional lineup consisted of a singer, keyboardist (Ryan Farley), a guitarist (Sean Finnigan), a drummer (Brendan Pezzoli), and a bassist ( Joe Brancato). The band came together origionally to play hardcore(I think, then again they mighta wanted ta start a ska band, I dont know , does it really matter? ).Well, never the less, they used ta play both hardcore, and ska music. They didnt try to mix it up in the way that a lot of crappy generic bands do today, they kept it apart, and when they did dabble into punk-ska, it sounded good. The Dents used ta have a hard time getting shows on Staten Island because of a few reasons. They were not part of the in-scene( S.I. has a really crappy music scene. There are a few good bands, but almost no punk bands. Everybody is only concerned about their stupid image, and if you do not play awful "grunge music", or Youth Crew Hardcore, then you are not even looked at as a real band.). The main reason that the band had a hard time was because they are all a bunch of lazy pricks, and nobody bothered setting up shows.
Well many years(actually 2 or 3), and many tragedies ( getting run over by ambulances, people going off to college, etc., etc., etc.), The band is still going on, and they're stronger than ever. Here is the current lineup:
Sean Finnigan- cocked shredding, backing vox
Joe Brancato- bass virtuoso , lady killer, backing vox
Rory Merrola- vocals, thrashing, spooge enthusiast
Brendan Pezzoli- Thunder, backing vox, taking up hospital space
The Dents keyboardist/singer, Ryan Farley, is, sadly, no longer, with the band.He has relocatd to Louisiana, where he has moved in as the love slave to the Creole chef. Whooooooo, IYE GAHYROWNTEEE.
Today, the Dents play more straight ahead fast punk rock. They mix it up with Oi!, and hardcore, and even some "pop punk", and metal influences here, and there. They still play some ska songs , which range from very traditional, to "core".
Note: The Dents , using recording time that they won in some ridiculous contest, have put out a demo. It has two songs on it. In my opinion, these songs are not their best material, but, it is a very good tape , and you should get it.
