Important Events In Oz History

  • Tim McManus is hired as Unit Manager of Cell Block 5. McManus calls his unit Emerald City, it is an experimental "prison within a prison" where prisoners are given more freedom and follow a daily routine in an attempt to enrich their lives.

  • Governor James Devlin who campaigned on a "No Perks For Prisoners" comes into office.

  • A new law is pssed that prohibits cigarettes inside the Oswald Maximum Security Penitentiary.

  • Famous Muslim Activist Kareem Said arrives to Oz and is sent to Em City. Kareem immediately angers Warden Leo Glynn by saying he could take over this jail at any time.

  • Conjugal visits are banned inside Oswald Maximum Security Penitentiary.

  • Governor James Devlin reinstates the death penalty.

  • Jefferson Keane becomes the first person to be executed by the state since Bob Rebadowe(although Rebadowe survived) in the 1960s.

  • Undercover Narcotics Agent Paul Markstram's cover is blown an he is found hung in the gymnsium.

  • Professional Basetball Star Jackson Vayhue arrives at Oz. Vayhue is sent to Em City.

  • A riot errupts inside Em City headed by Kareem Said, Ryan O'Reily, Simon Adebisi, Miguel Alvarez, and Scott Ross.

  • Governor Devlin sends in the National Guard to end the riot, a move which left 2 Correctional Officers and 6 prisoners dead, with an additional 34 injured. The only known prisoner to die was Scott Ross. Among the injured was Tim McManus who was shot in the chest.

  • State Ivestigator Alvah Case is brought in to investigate the riot. At the end of his investigation he places the blame on no specific prisoners and unwillingly condones the Governor's actions.

  • 10 months after the riot, prisoners are transfered back into Emerald City from Gen-Pop.

  • Tim McManus institutes an interaction session consisting of himself and the leaders of all the gangs in Em City.

  • Warden Leo Glynn's daughter Ardith is raped by a gang of Latinos.

  • Kareem Said's book about the riot "Oz Aran" hits the stores.

  • Shirley Bellinger arrives at Oz on Death Row. She is the first woman sentenced to death since 1841.

  • Jiggy Walker arrives at Oz and starts spreading the word that he was the Governors drug dealer. James Devlin confronted Jiggy and cleared himself by having alibis for all the dates Jiggy said they met eachother's acquaintence.

  • A new law requiring sex offenders to register is passed.

  • Mark Mack and another Aryan inmate try to escape trough a tunnel built by Agamenon Busmalis. The tunnel collapses on them and they die.

  • Kareem Said is offered a full pardon by the Governor in observance of Ramadan. Said refuses the pardon and lambasts Governor Devlin live on television.

  • Oswald Maximum Security Penententiary is renamed Oswald State Correctional Facility: Level Four.

  • In an effort to cost prison costs, Governor Devlin brings in the Weigert Corporation to run the medical depatrment.

  • Clayton Hughes, the son of a former C.O who worked with Warden Glynn while he was a C.O and who was killed on the job gets hired as a Correctional Officer.

  • Kareem Said along with Scott Ross' sister Tricia file a wrongful death suit against the state.

  • Governor Devlin passes a law which reduces the fees for court-appointed lawyers on murder cases.

  • Sean Murphey, a friend of McManus' becomes the new C.O supervisor in Em City.

  • Sean Murphey and McManus organize an Oswald boxing tournament.

  • Correctional Officer Claire Howell files a sexual harassent lawsuit against Tim McManus.

  • Simon Adebisi and Kenny Wangler tell the media and the Warden that McManus sexually harassed Kenny.

  • Shirley Bellinger's death sentence is commuted to life in the State Asylum after it is discovered she is pregnant.

  • The boxing tournament ends in tragedy when Cyril O'Reily leaves his opponent Hamid Khan braindead in the finals.

  • Clayton Hughes is fired by the Warden, but before he leaves, he leaves a gun under Adebisi's blanket.

  • After a string of suicides in Solitary, Murphey suggests an hour of recreational time each day for the inmates in Solitary.

  • After William Giles kills Louis Bevilaqua and stabs Miguel Alvarez, Solitary rec-time is canned.

  • Shirley Bellinger is sent back to Death Row after she miscarried under suspicious circumstances.

  • Warden Glynn starts making a run for liuetenant governor alongside Governor Devlin.

  • Detective Johnny Basil is brought into Em City on an undercover mission. He plays a jamaican named Desmond Mobay and tries to crack the Oz drug ring.

  • Adebisi places the gun in Gulliam Tarrant's cell-an inmate who had been getting bullied by The Gangstas. Tarrant uses the gun to kill Kenny Wangler, Pierce, a C.O, wound 3, and then kill himself.

  • Tim McManus is fired from his position as Unit Manager of Emerald City.

  • Sean Murphey fills in for McManus as interim Unit Manager.

  • Agnamemnon Busmalis and Miguel Alvarez escape through a tunnel made by Busmalis.

  • Busmalis is found in front of the actress who plays Miss Sally's house.

  • Kareem Said and Tricia Ross win the wrongful death lawsuit against the state.

  • Dr. Gloria Nathan is raped on her way home.

  • Martin Querns is hired as Unit Manager of Em City. He cuts a deal with Adebisi that as long as there's no violence, he can sell whatever drugs he wants.

  • Tim McManus accepts a job as Unit Manager of Unit B.

  • Shirley Bellinger is executed by hanging.

  • Johnny Basil kills new inmate Detective Bruno Georgen after he recognizes him.

  • Querns begins turning Em City into an all black unit by transfering out all the non-black prisoners and C.O.s

  • During an interview with the Governor at Oz, Clayton Hughes attempts to assassinate Devlin by shooting him. Devlin gets hit but survives.

  • Detective Johnny Basil admits to the killing of Bruno Georgen.

  • Two inmates are killed, ending Querns' no violence streak.

  • Kareem Said brings a tape to the Warden of what Adebisi was allowed to do by Querns. Glynn fires Querns and gives the position back to McManus.

  • Kareem Said kills the most powerful man in Oz-Simon Adebisi in self defense when Adebisi tried to stab him.

  • A production crew visits Oz to make a documentary about the prison. After te host, Jack Eldrigde is attacked by Cyril O'Reily, the production is called off and the documentary never airs.

  • McManus adda anothr innovative tool to Em City, a cage in the middle of the unit that prisoners will be sent to instead of the hole.

  • Miguel Alvarez is recaptured and brought back to solitary.

  • James Devlin is elected for another term as Governor.

  • Famous televangelist Jeremiah Cloutier arrives at Oz.

  • A chinese tanker crashes off the coast and illegal chinese immigrants are found on board. The aliens are to be held in the middle of the common room in Em City. One the immigrants is killed by Enrique Morales after refusing to kill Burr Redding.

  • Clayton Hughes arrives at Oz as an inmate for the attempted assassination of the governor.

  • The Weigert Corpraton offers a new product. It's an aging pill to be tested on prisoners to stop overcrowding in jails. Instead of serving a jail term, the convict would take a pill and age the number of years they're sentenced to.

  • Tim McManus is stabbed by Omar White. Tim recovers fully from the attack.

  • After an inmate dies from the aging pill, the experiment is called off.

  • Detective Johnny Basil is killed by Clayton Hughes.

  • Padriac Connolly, an Irish terrorist facing extradition is brought into Em City.

  • The Governor limits the choices of execution to lethal injection and electrocuton.

  • Clayton Hughes is killed when another inmate stops him from killing the warden.

  • A gas explosion in the cafeteria destroys part of the prison.

  • On the first day visiting privileges ressume at Oz after the gas explosion, Father Mukada guides a bus full of inmates' relatives to Oz. The bus was forced off the road by an oil truck and rolled down a hill. Enrique Morales' sister was killed, Augustus Hill's mother was killed, Zahir Arif's wife was killed, Vern Schillinger's daughter-in-law died, but his grandaughter and Father Ray Mukada were the ony survivors.
