For over 20 years, the Mt. Pleasant Recreation Department and D.A.R.E. program have been offering The Premier to local middle school students. The evening includes a D.J., game room, open gym, snacks, and a chance to mingle with friends in a safe environment. Tickets can be purchased at the door, but are available at the Recreation department at a lower rate. Books of 5 tickets are also sold in advance at a discounted rate.
Social Networking websites and video chat websites are just some of the ways for teens to communicate over the internet. Kids can sign on and become members free of charge. These websites, such as Instagaram and Facebook, give young people the ability to post diaries, photos, videos, music, and personal information. Video chat sites such as ooVoo, Skype and Facetime are entertaining but lead to hurtful things being said and then re-posted on YouTube. Many teens are posting very specific personal information, creating the potential for danger.
For more information, visit the Wired Safety Website or contact the Mt. Pleasant Police Youth Bureau. Please contact us to set up a group or PTA presentation.
