Mike Caruso

Mike Caruso is a shortstop.  He bats left-handed and throws right-handed.  Mike was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 2nd round of the 1996 free agent draft. In '96 he played for the Bellingham Giants. In '97 he played for the San Jose Giants, until he got traded to the White Sox on July 31. Then he played for the Winston-Salem Warthogs for the rest of the season.

He made his Major League debut in 1998 with the Chicago White Sox. He was rated the No. 1 Top Rookie Prospect in the league in '96. He was rated the No. 3 Prospect on the San Jose Giants before he got traded in '97.  Mike was the key player in the trade that sent him to the White Sox organization.

In the 1998 season Rookie of the Year voting, Mike came in third behind Ben Greive and Rolando Arrojo. In the ESPN Players Choice Awards voting for Outstanding Rookie, Mike was among the top 3 candidates.

After being released from the White Sox after the 2000 season, Mike signed with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, where he played for the Durham Bulls for a season. 

Mike signed to a minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds, and started the 2002 season in AAA with the Reds. He was then traded to Kansas City and was sent to the AAA Omaha Royals. He played shortstop and second in Omaha before being called up to Kansas City on June 29th. center>
