"Cops are the only people standing between you and them. You're too weakened by civilization to defend yourself. You want someone else to do the dirty work for you, just as you expect Ronald McDonald to slaughter your cattle and chicken before you eat them. In case you haven't noticed, there's a lot of cheap, spoiled meat on the streats these days. Does that statement make you defensive? Perhaps I'm talking about you. Rollcall: junkies, gangsters, killers, rapists, dustheads, welfare cheats, petty thieves, wife-beaters, carjackers, pimps, strawberrries, puke-smeared drunks, crusty schizos, AIDS-splattered shooting galleries... Had enough, Buster? Cops spend all week with their heads dunked in the social toliet. They see all the oozing pus sores, the social cancers, every predatory, bottom-feeding, crustacean character no one else is able to handle. Could you endure the naked stench for fifteen minutes? No, but sit and criticize like the cowering, two-bit punk you are. We are S.W.A.T. Today we get you for a ride along. Tomorrow we get our hands dirty." -From the S.W.A.T. liner notes
look, i can't say enough about this c.d.. now i'm not one to over glorify things, but this is one of the best i've ever gotten my hands on. since i fancied the writing styles of Jim Goad and Boyd Rice, i figured i'd give this little baby a listen and see what she had to offer me. what followed was a slightly obsessive listening relationship. at first i was listening to the thing daily, laughing aloud like a maniac on the subway and in my car. since then i've cooled down, but it still gets 5 stars in my little black book. never in such a humorous fashion have i heard all facets of society slandered to such a toe tappin' beat. It's a star studded cast featuring Poison Idea, Adam Parfrey and Nick Bougas. To top it off, there is also a guest appearance by the late Anton Lavey. Since each track is a gem, i decided to list and rate each song one by one... so please read on and then try and pry your pasty face away from the computer screen and find this c.d.. for once in your life you won't be sorry.
1. The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly: You know where this song came from, but it has a new twist. Samples thrown in from the show "Dragnet" and vocals from Adam Parfrey make ita perfect opener.
2. The Pusher: "weed, smack, speed, crack... i'll get you so high till the day you die cause i'm so fly"Lovely remake of this song we all know so well. Once again sung by Mr. Parfrey with backing vocals by Jim Goad.
3. Cops are the Only Real People Left: Humorous, yet touching conversation between two "peace" officers - Sgt. Lester Maddox (adam Parfrey) and Sgt. Jimbo Slater (Jim Goad). Background music from the "Midnight Cowboy" theme.
4. Coffee, Coffee, Coffee: funny, funny, funny. figure it out for yourself. Sung by Jim Goad with samples from "Dragnet."
5. Theme from S.W.A.T.: Originally written by Mr. Issac Hayes, but re-touched by A. Parfrey with samples from the first night of the L.A. Riots (1992)
6. Highway Patrol:"Highway patrol/ always alone my pay is low/ i do my best to keep you driving slow/ i'm just doing my job on the Higway patrol a patrol man sings his story in one of the more catchy tunes on this c.d.
7. In the Ghetto: "...a nine year old smoking angeldust/ got a glock in his hand/ but he's gonna get busted in the ghetto" by far this is the best track. i like to drive around the "bad" parts of town blasting this song with the windows rolled down. sung by Jim Goad.
8. You're Under Arrest: a psychotic cop vocalizes his love to a truckstop diner waitress the only way he knows how.
9. Formula 409: Adam Parfrey, Jim Goad, and Thee Slayer Hippy (Steve Hanford) retell this "Large Marge" type story about a loney crossroads, a haunted truckstop, and the ghost of a "brave" highway patrol man.
10. We Can See For Miles: You know this one originally written by Pete Townsend, but changed around for this by A. Parfrey. I'm not sure, but i think it's about the boarder patrol.
11. Hold on Baby: YeeeeeHaaaa!
12. 25 Minutes to Go: Jim Goad and thee Slayer Hippy sing about a condemend man's last 25 minutes before he hangs on the gallows.
13. Tony and Xerxes at the Shortstop: "Midnight Cowboy" music used again as Sgt. Tony Levering (Anton Lavey) shares a caring fatherly moment with Patrolman Xerxes Bond (Boyd Rice)
14. Thunderball: You know where this ones from. Sung in a twisted drawl by Nick Bougas. You HAVE to hear this one. Best sung aloud around people who don't quite know you yet.
