Wedding Day September 2, 1950
John and Nancy first met on a November afternoon in 1946. In June of 1950 they became engaged to be married at an unspecified date. However, the next day the Korean War started and soon after John received his draft notice. The decision was made to be married as soon as possible before going into the service.
Fort Bragg, North Carolina, 1951
John was drafted on January 25,1951 and sent to Ft Bragg for Basic and then Military Police training
John was stationed in Hawaii as a military policeman and Nancy promptly followed. WAIKIKI (click here ) Their first child,John Charles, was born in Honolulu.After fulfilling his military obligation John and Nancy returned home. John resumed his apprentiship as a plumber with Nancy's father, John Lightbody.Before long their second child, Therese (Terry) Ann was born.By now the young family was living in New Rochelle, NY where Lightbody Plumbing & Heating was located. After Terry another daughter,Patricia Ellen, was born. She was followed by another daughter, Gina Marie. Finally John and Nancy had another son, Christopher Michael (Chris), who was to be their last child.
