SegaCD/MegaCD Demo List V1.0 ---------------------------- by Christopher Coleman with thanks to Clint Dyer, Jon Dyton, Ben Strobel, chrfoulger@aol.com This is a list of all demo CDs (currently known to us, anyway) that exist for the Sega CD or MegaCD systems. Demo CDs have been available in the past cover-mounted to magazines, or given away at shows such as E3 in the US. For a demo CD gallery containing scans of some of these CDs, and demo CDs from many other systems, as well as the latest version of this list, please visit http://www.wantree.com.au/~coleman For an excellent PAL MegaDrive FAQ, http://www.digitpress.com/faq/megadrive.txt Sega CD ------- * Dragon's Lair This is believed to be a dealer demonstration disc of the game. Also, it's believed that it was distributed at either a CES or an E3 show. It contains a single playable stage of the game, as well as a list of all the moves you need to perform to complete the stage being printed on the label side of the CD. * Loadstar (work in progress/beta) This CD was given out during a past E3 show, and contains a playable stage of the game, a FMV intro, and a FMV clip advertising "Cadillacs and Dinosaurs". Mega CD (PAL) ------------- * BC Racers "BC Racers - the full uncut version will be racing on to a Sega MegaCD near you in December 1994(AD), and onto a Sega MegaDrive 32x in March 1995(AD) So get ready to go steady with Cliff and Roxy.... Totally Prehysterical!" A playable track (appears to be a New Mexico-esque desert track) from the full game awaits you on this CD.. you control "Cliff and Roxy" for three laps. Please note there are in fact two versions of this demo CD, with different tracks, and the CDs have different art. * Digital Pictures Demo This demo CD contains a playable sample of Scottie Pippen's Slam City (against "Fingers") and also contains a video of various titles by the company. * Fatal Fury Special Notable for the full-color CD art of Mai, a character from the game. * FIFA International Soccer (Championship Edition) Playable demo, mounted to Mega Power magazine. * Flashback This CD contains a playable section from the popular Delphine arcade adventure. A covermount to Sega Pro magazine * Keio Flying Squadron Playable demo, covermounted to an issue of Sega Pro magazine. * The Lawnmower Man This demo CD was a covermount to Mega Power in the UK, and is of note because when the full game was issued in the UK, it was pressed in the US/NTSC format instead. The game had to be recalled, and was never reissued in the proper PAL/MegaCD format. * Lethal Enforcers 2 Playable demo * Mickey Mania "Rescue Pluto and defeat the biggest, meanest Pete anyone has ever seen as Mickey travels through some of the greatest cartoon adventures of his career!" You play Mickey Mouse in a platformer with some "shooting" in this game. On the CD is one stage, where you're rescuing "Steamboat Willie" in a docks style area. There's a large amount of nice speech on the CD, as well. A covermount to Sega Pro magazine * Novastorm This is a playable demo of a nauseatingly bad FMV-backdropped shooter. You get a FMV introduction, two stages (one normal, one boss encounter) set in a lava landscape, and at least one set in an ice stage. My copy of the CD crashed at this point, so there may be more on the CD. A covermount to Sega Pro magazine * Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure A playable level from the game. (To be confirmed) * Psygnosis Christmas Sampler This CD had demos of "Wiz and Liz" and "Puggsy", as well as a Sunscream music video and the intro cinema to "Microcosm". It was a covermount to the December 1993 issue of Mega Power, and was notable for being the only demo CD to promote a cartridge product ("Wiz and Liz"). * Rebel Assault There are two different demo CDs of this game: Sega Pro -> This disc has a FMV introduction with voiceover, and Chapter 11: Tie Attack from the full game, a level where you control the weapons of an X-Wing and must destroy TIE Fighters. The difficulty level seems rather high, and the game automatically stops after a few minutes regardless of progress. Mega Power -> This disc contains a playable copy of the Hoth level. * Samurai Shodown This CD has a very nice full color picture printed on it of Galford and his dog Poppy, character(s) from the game. * Sensible Soccer This CD had a playable demo of "Sensible Soccer" which had a bug that caused the internal memory of the MegaCD unit to be filled with saves of the game. It was a covermount to Mega Power. * Shadow of the Beast 2 Dealer Demo This CD contained a playable demo of the game "Shadow of the Beast 2", and was distributed to dealers for in-store demos. The CD itself had "Beast 2" printed on it. * Soulstar/Battlecorps This is a two-game demo CD, with a loading screen where you can select which demo you wish to play. To choose another, it's necessary to reset the console. Soulstar: "Strap yourself into the cockpit of your 'Agressor' multi-mode combat vehicle. Soulstar will feature more than 47 massive zones in the finished version". The demo version has three playable stages. Battlecorps is a guy-in-mech-with-cockpit-view-stomping-around-blowing-stuff-up game, and the demo has one stage from the full game to play. NOTE: These two demos were also available on separate CDs. In dual format, it was both a covermount to a magazine, and was handed out to customers in the UK "Dixons" chain. The Battlecorps demo CD (by itself) was mounted to Mega Power magazine. The SoulStar demo CD (by itself) was mounted to Mega Pro magazine. * TimeCop This has a playable level where you control a dude in a jetpack, and fly around a scrollable area (cityscape), and shoot at floating mines, and the occasional white-coat wearing jetpack person with violence intended toward your person. The full game was never actually released. The soundtrack is sub-Halen guitar action, and some tinny gunshots. * The Lawnmower Man A playable demo * Thunderhawk Two playable levels of the game were present on this demo CD from Core. When you run thunderhawk, using a converter, on a 60hz machine, the American title screen will come up - "Firehawk". This was the first ever MegaCD demo CD released. * USA Soccer 1994 Playable demo Mega CD (Japan) --------------- ? +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ (c) 1998 Christopher Coleman coleman@wantree.com.au Please contribute if you can!
