Coming Home Part 4

Things you need to know: I do not own these characters they are the property of Kevin Williamson , etc. I am just a fan writing some fiction to kill the time until the new season!!

Dawson and Joey have been dating now for a few months. Joey has applied for and received a teaching position at Capeside High school. She will be teaching history because that is the only opening. The dinner went well with Mr. Potter and his girlfriend. Dawson has been wanting to officially propose to Joey, but doesn't know if she is ready for that yet. Nick calls the girls weekly. He knows Joey and Dawson are dating. The girls are growing closer to Dawson every day and Nick is jealous. Story begins with Joey at Dawson's telling him about her latest phone call with Nick.

Dawson is trying to comfort Joey "Joe, relax. It will be OK. We can fly with them to Washington and grab a connecting flight to Los Angeles and you can check out Hollywood. That way they can visit with their Dad and you and I can have a week alone" A look of relief passes Joey's face "You would do that for me?" Dawson "Of course. I would do anything for you. Besides it is not a completely unselfish suggestion. I want you to know what life is going to be like with me." Joey frowning and furrowing her brows "What do you mean?" Dawson "Well Joey, Hollywood is totally different from Capeside. I don't ever want to live there, but it will be necessary for me to spend time there, and I hope that you will be with me when I do." Joey's job crosses her mind, "Well, we'll see Dawson." Dawson's face falls. "Joe, that is not the response I was hoping for." Joey sighs "Well lets deal with one problem at a time." Dawson getting frustrated "We have solved the problem with the girls flying alone Joe. Why do you have reservations about our future?"

Joey pushes her hair behind her ear nervously as she walks across the room and sits down on the sofa. Dawson comes over and sits by her awaiting a response from her. Joey tries to gather her thoughts and finally speaks "Dawson, I love you. I want to be with you, but I don't want my entire identity to be based on you. I came back to Capeside to begin again. To find myself. To figure out who I am.... How do I explain this?" Dawson "Your job? Are you afraid I will want you to quit your job?" Joey "Yes. I am not even sure that I want to always be a teacher, but I do know that I want to work. I can't just follow you around everywhere you go. Even if I wanted to......there's the girls. Amanda will be in school." Dawson closes his eyes and runs his fingers through his hair. "Joey, we will figure this stuff out as we go. I am pretty much my own boss. For the most part I can pick out what projects I want to do and when I want to do them. I promise I will always respect your career choices and support you all that I can." Joey grins "Thanks for understanding. (pushes him back on the sofa) I always knew you were one of the good ones." She crawls on top of him and they kiss passionately.

(Two weeks later)

Dawson pulls up to Mr. Potter's house and gets out to knock. Amanda runs out the door and says "I am going to go see my Daddy!" Dawson laughs "I know. Have you ever ridden on an airplane?" Amanda says "No, but I am not scared." Joey walks out with bags in hand. He rushes up to help. "Can I kiss you?" Joey glances at Amanda who is running to the swing set Mr. Potter bought them. "A quick one" she says as she wraps her arms around him. It is not a quick one and Amanda notices them. She does not say anything though. Mr. Potter comes out carrying Jessica with her favorite doll. He hands her to Joey and looks down. "I am gonna miss you girls." Joey laughs and hugs him. "We will miss you too Dad." Mr. Potter hugs her back and Amanda runs up to tell him bye too.

Amanda is quiet on the way to the airport. Joey asks her if something is wrong. Amanda says "Is Dawson gonna be my new Daddy?" Joey blushes and doesn't know how to respond. Dawson speaks up "Amanda I want to marry your Mom someday, but you already have a Dad. How do you feel about me marrying your Mom?" Amanda sits back and doesn't say anything. Dawson speaks up again "You know Amanda, I don't just like your Mom. I like you and Jessica too. I want you guys to marry me too. I won't be your Dad, but we can still be a family." Amanda forms a grin on her face. "Really? Can I wear a pretty dress?" Joey busts out laughing relieved at Amanda's response. "Sure. You can be the flower girl if we get married." Dawson grinned at Joey's response. He had not officially asked her to marry him yet, but had planned to on this trip. He wasn't too nervous about her answer. Everything had been going so well for them. Joey still had a hard time being around Sheila, but even that situation was going pretty well. Life was good.

The girls were excited about flying. Dawson and Joey had purposely planned to get to the airport early so the girls could watch planes take off and land before they left. Nick was there waiting as they got off the plane. Dawson was extremely nervous about seeing him again. It just felt weird. Nick should have never been a part of Joey's life in the first place as far as Dawson was concerned. Joey was nervous as well. She didn't know how Nick would act. He had made some snide remarks on the phone about she and Dawson. She just hoped both would be on their best behavior for the girl's sakes. Amanda squealed when she saw her father. She ran and hugged him. He picked her up and squeezed her tight. He looked for Jessica. She was not so happy. She was hiding behind Joey's leg. Joey tried to reassure Nick that Jessica was just shy because it had been a while. They all ate lunch together and by the time Joey and Dawson had to go to catch their flight Jessica was sitting in her Dad's lap. Joey said a tearful good-bye. She had never been away from the girls over a night before. It broke her heart to leave them in a strange city even if it was with their father.

Their flight touched down at 3:00 California time. Joey had never been west before and this was exciting for her. Dawson didn't really like Hollywood that much, but it did have it's perks sometimes. He was eager to get Joey alone. A limo picked them up at the airport. Joey tried to look unimpressed as they drove away from the airport. Dawson instructed the driver to take them to his house and proceeded to pull Joey into a deep kiss. He felt so good. She was totally swept away by him every time he kissed her. She thought about the driver up front. Joey pulled away after a few more minutes. "Dawson, I know he can't see us, but this is too weird. Not here OK?" He fell back against the seat laughing. "Geez Joey did you really think I wanted to do that here?" Joey shot him a look. He wasn't fooling her one bit. He dropped his head in defeat. She couldn't get over how lucky she felt. Maybe things will work out she thought. She never had any doubts about the love she felt for Dawson or his love for her for that matter. She just worried sometimes that things were going a bit too smoothly. It had all happened a little too easily. She decided maybe it was her time to be happy. Maybe she should just accept it and not over analyze things.

When the driver pulled up at Dawson's house Joey was astounded. "Dawson? Why do you have a house this large when you don't live in it half the time?" Dawson laughed. "Because I could? I don't know Joe everyone has them. Most are larger than mine. You should see Speilberg's." Joey rolled her eyes and laughed. "Whatever. I guess I haven't really thought too much about this part of your life. You haven't talked about it. You have told me all about your movie ideas, but you never talk about your life here." As they walked into the house Dawson sighed. "That is because it isn't real. Everyone here kisses my ass. Everyone I meet usually wants something from me. The perks are fun for a while, but it is all so shallow. If my movies stopped making money I would be friendless here. That is why I don't stay here. I don't want to surround myself with people like that. It is too easy to fall into that lifestyle. Too easy to believe the hype. That is why I came back to Capeside when my work was done." He looked at Joey who was listening to him intently. The seriousness left Dawson's face and a grin spread across it as he soaked in Joey's beauty.
"Umm.. Want me to show you around?" Dawson said as he scooped her up and started carrying her up some stairs. Joey laughed. "Oh let me guess what room you want to show me first?" Dawson raised his eyebrows and said "You know me so well. I always liked that about you." Joey cracked up laughing and Dawson slowly lowered her onto the bed. Both became very serious as Dawson started unbuttoning Joey's dress. Their passion grew with every kiss. She loved feeling his breath on her neck and how he kissed her everywhere. Being with him felt so right. Like coming home.
(I know it's corny. I couldn't resist though! I am not through with this story. Just this title!)
