"Hey watch it!" Joey said as someone threw a basketball at her locker. Warren
came over and grabbed his basketball.
"Hey Joey." He said leaning against the lockers. Joey just kept putting books
into her backpack."I should have known it was you." She said not looking up.
"You are still mad about that whole thing that happen a few months ago aren't
you?" Warren asked her.
"Yes I am." She said and slammed her locker shut. "Now I really have to be
going.""Joey just listen. I am sorry about that. It was just a joke and I did
apologize.""Okay fine. Whatever."
"Josephine! Oh Josephine!" Pacey called down the hall. Joey gave him a
disgusted look. He walked over to her and pushed past Warren. "Your chariot
awaits milady." They started walking down the hall leaving Warren standing
alone at Joey's locker.
"Thanks Pace. So what did you do steal your dad's car again?" Joey asked when
they got outside.
"I prefer to call it borrowing." Pacey said. He spotted Dawson and Jen
walking out of school together. "Hey Dawson, my man want a ride?"
"Sure Pace." Dawson said as he and Jen walked over to them.
"Hey guys." Jen said as they all got into the car.
"What are you guys doing tonight? I was thinking maybe we could all go to the
movies." Dawson said.
"We always either go to the movies or watch movies at your house. Why don't
we go to the dance tonight?" Jen said.
"Okay Jen if you want to." Dawson said and smiled at her. "Pace, Jo you guys
want to go?" "I'll go." Pacey said pulling up in front of Dawson's house.
"Uh, I'm not so sure I want to go." Joey said. "I don't like dances."
"Well when you decide if your are going to come give me a call." Dawson said
and he and Jen got out of the car. Pacey continued driving towards Joey'shouse.
"You should come, Jo. It'll be fun." Pacey said.
"And watch Dawson swoon over the bottled blonde? I think not."
"I have an idea. I don't know if you'll go along with it, but it will sure as
hell make Spielburg junior jealous." Pacey said."Whats your idea?"
"Go to the dance with me." Pacey said. Joey started to laugh and when she saw
that Pacey wasn't laughing she stopped."You're serious?" Joey asked."Yeah."
"Well I guess I'll go with you Pace." She said. He pulled up in front of her
house.
"Great. I'll pick you up at 7." Pacey said and she got out of the car. Joey
ran into the house and called Jen."Hello?" Mrs. Ryan said into the phone.
"Hello Mrs. Ryan, It's Joey Potteris Jen home?" Joey asked.
"Just a minute please." Mrs. Ryan said. "Jennifer, that Potter girl is on the
phone.""Hey Joey." Jen said into the phone a minute later.
"Hey Jen. I was wondering do you think maybe I could come over and we could
get ready for the dance?" Joey asked."Sure Jo. You decided to go?" Jen asked.
"Yeah. I am going as kind of a date thing with Pacey." Joey said. "I'll be
over in about 10 minutes." she hung up the phone. Then she picked it up again
and dialed Pacey's number."Hello?" He said into the phone.
"Hey Pace. It's Joey." Joey said."Hey Joey. Whats up?"
"I was wondering instead of picking me up at my house can you pick me up at
Jen's? I'm going over there to get ready." Joey said.
"Sure Jo. See ya at 7." Pacey said."Pacey?""Yeah Joey?"
"Thanks." She said and hung up the phone. She ran up to her room and got the
dress and stuff she was going to wear and went outside. She got in her
rowboat and rowed across the creek. She tied the boat up at the dock and got
out. She ran to Jen's house and knocked on the door. Mrs. Ryan answered.
"Hello Josephine, can I help you?""Yeah, I'm here to see Jen." Joey said.
"Obviously. Wait one minute." Mrs. Ryan said and then called to Jen.
"Jennifer, Josephine is here." Jen ran down the stairs.
"Hey Joey, come on in." Jen said and the two girls went up to Jen's room.
"God how do you live with her? She is so formal." Joey said.
"I'm used to it. But I hate being called Jennifer." Jen said.
"Not nearly as much as I hate being called Josephine." Joey said.
"Oh Jo, thats a pretty dress." Jen said pointing at the short purple spagetti
strap dress Joey was holding."Is it okay?" Joey asked.
"Yeah." Jen said. "Why don't you go in the bathroom and change and then we
can do your hair and makeup?"
"Okay." Joey said. She went into the bathroom and changed into the dress.
She went back into Jen's room."How does it look?" She asked.
"Great Jo. Help me decided which dress." Jen said holding up two dresses.
One was a long red dress with a slit up the side and the other was a long
sleeved short blue dress. "The blue one." Joey said.
"Okay. I think I'll wear that one then." Jen said and grabbed the blue dress.
She went into the bathroom, changed and came back."What do ya think?" She asked.
"Looks good." Joey said. "What are you going to do with your hair?"
"I think I am going to curl it and wear it down. You?"
"I think I'm going to pull it up." Joey said. The began fixing their hair and
putting on makeup. Before they knew it, it was 7:00. Joey looked at theclock.
"The guys are going to be here any minute." she said.
"Jennifer, Josephine, Pacey and Dawson are here." Mrs. Ryan called up thestairs.
"Coming Grams." Jen said. The two girls walked downstairs.
"Wow. You guys look great." Dawson said taking Jen's hand. Pacey put her arm
around Joey. She looked at him in surprise. He gave her a look that said
'play along'. "Since when are you two, together?" Dawson asked getting jealous.
"Since this afternoon." Pacey said. He opened the car door for Joey and then
went around and got in on the driver side.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Dawson demanded.
"I didn't think I had to report to you when I decided to go to a dance with
someone dad." Joey said becoming angry.
"Well I think it is good that you two are going together." Jen said sensing
the tension between Dawson and Joey.
"Thanks Jen." Joey said gratefully. Pacey pulled the car into the school
parkinglot. They got out and went inside.
"Ohmigod." Joey said when they got inside. She grabbed Dawson's arm and
pulled him away from Jen and Pacey.
"Dawson isn't that Miss Jacobs?" She asked pointing at the woman by the punch
bowl.
"Yeah I think it is. She looks like she is going over to talk to Pacey too."
Dawson said. Joey and Dawson walked back over to Jen and pacey as Miss Jacobs
was aproaching. A slow song came on."Come on Pace, lets dance." Joey said.
"Sure Jo." Pacey said and they walked out on the dance floor. She is so
beautiful. If only she didn't love Dawson. Pacey thought to himself. Who am
I kidding? Even if she didn't love Dawson she'd never go out with me.
"Pacey, are you listening to me?" She demanded.
"Uh, sorry Jo. What did you say?" He asked."Miss Jacobs is here." Joey said.
"She is? Where is she?" Pacey asked."Over talking to Mr. Gold." Joey said.
"Oh well. I'll talk to her later or something." Pacey said. "Listen Jo, I
have to tell you something. I know you love Dawson and everything, but Joey,
I love you." Joey looked at him and then ran off. She just kept on running.
She heard Jen calling after her, but she didn't stop. Finally she stopped
running and sat down under a tree.
"Joey what happened back there? Why did you bolt out?" Jen asked trying to
catch her breath."Pacey...he, he said that he loves me." Joey said.
"Pace why did Joey leave?" Dawson asked.
"I don't know. I told her that I love her and she bolted." Pacey said.
"Whoa you told her you love her? I know you had a thing for her, but I didn't
know it was this serious." Dawson said.
"Yeah, but shes in love with you. I'd never have a chance with her." Paceysaid.
"I like Pacey, Jen. I really do. But I was in love with Dawson for the
longest time. I guess I have to move on. I'm not even really sure why I
bolted. I was just scared I guess." Joey said.
"You need to talk to both Pacey and Dawson, Jo." Jen said.
"Okay. I guess your right. Lets go back to the dance." Joey said. The two
girls walked back to the school. They saw Pacey and Joey sitting on the front
steps."We were wondering when you guys were going to get back." Dawson said.
"I'm just going to go back inside and talk to some people." Jen said. "JOey
needs to talk to you guys.""Okay Jen." Dawson said."Thanks Jen." Joey said.
"So, Jo what do you need to talk to us about?" Dawson asked.
"Pacey I know you think I left because I'm in love with Dawson, well thats not
true anymore. I'm not in love with Dawson anymore. I left because I was
scared." Joey said. "Dawson I really want us to stay best friends and I'm not
going to let Jen come betweens us anymore because I am not jealous anymore. I
realized that I'm not in love with you anymore Dawson, that you're just my
best friend."
"Okay Jo. I'll always be your best friend. You know that." Dawson said.
"Right now I am going to go inside with Jen."
"Okay Dawson." Joey said. She sat down on the steps next to Pacey.
"Pacey, I like you. I really, really do. I guess I left when you said that
because I was afraid. Afraid of all these feelings I'm beginning to have for
you." Joey said."So where does that leave us Jo?" Pacey asked.
"Where do you want it to leave us?" Joey asked.
"I want us to be together. If thats what you want." Pacey said.
"Thats deffinately what I want." Joey said. She leaned over and kissed him
passionately.
Awww, how sweet. Wanna know what happens next? I bet you do. Well of course
I'm not going to tell you, so you are going to have to wait for the next part.
