Week Five (Days 29-35)
DEVELOPMENT OF THE PUPPIES

+ Group activities and sexual play will begin
+ Dominance order starts
+ Rapid growth/development

July 8th, Day 29

Wake up sleepy head!

The pups are eating 4 meals a day now. Beauty still feeds them inbetween times, but those sharp little teeth will put a stop to that soon!

This mornings meal was soaked puppy food, yogurt, a little gerber rice cereal and Missing Link®

Lunch outside on the grass

the pups didn't stay out long, since its so hot, and the puppy room is a lot cooler. But we are starting to expose them to different experiences, and it gives me a chance to give the puppy room a good scrubbing!

July 9th, Day 30

We want out!

July 10th, Day 31

Play time!

As the pups grow, so does the puppy room

By using X-pens, I can configure the puppy room in a number of ways. Still leaving an area for Beauty to get away from them if she wishes.

Even simple things like a yogurt container can be toys to the pups at this age

Beauty goes in and cleans up after breakfast

July 11th, Day 32

Breakfast and play time outside

We want to come back in!

Back inside to mess up the just cleaned puppy room!

the pups like the tunnels

July 12th, Day 33

Outside for breakfast. It is going to be a hot day today, so I put the pups out early, and will being them back in when the temp starts to climb.

there are lots of toys in the pen. Also a vari kennel top turned over, to provide shade and a den like sleeping area.

the pups got nails trimmed again last night, and collars changed. They also got visitors to play with them!

I put the green collar back on liver boy. His last one had fallen off, but being the only liver boy, I knew who he was and didn't replace it right away. Once it went on last night, he scratched and scratched at it!

10:30 am pictures

I went to give the pups a mid-morning meal, and to see if it was getting too warm outside for them.

Some were under the shade of the vari-kennel, but pink girl had her own idea of cool!

July 13th, Day 34

Beauty goes in and cleans up the breakfast dishes!

July 14th, Day 35

The pups are awake, and the puppy room is a mess!

Breakfast in the shark cage. They ate every bit of it. Beauty won't be happy...she looks forward to leftovers!

Back in the puppy room...they make short work of tearing everything apart again!

Today, its a game of tug-o-war

On to week 6!

About the Book

Follow a litter of puppies from birthday until they go to their new homes. The diary contains lots of pictures, tips on puppy rearing, some breed specific information, and lots of information on the care of any breed of dog.

I started doing an on-line puppy diary since many of the people that would be getting one of my pups would not be able to travel here to see the pups. I did not want to put a bunch of cute puppy pictures online, and encourage anyone to have a litter just because they wanted to see cute puppies! Breeding dogs, if done the right way, is a lot of work. Lost sleep and sometimes heartache. It takes a lot of time, effort and money to raise a litter of puppies. Once I started doing The Puppy Diary, I realized I had a captive audience. These people logged on every day to see the pictures, and read what was happening. I used this opportunity to cram as much education into each day as I could. Health, Coat issues, grooming, feeding, socializing, vet care, puppy evaluations, shipping puppies.... you name it! I tried to put it in The Diary. It was suggested that I make it into a book. Well here it is! There are 560 pictures and over 300 pages of living with and watching one litter grow up.

I am sure may conscientious, caring breeders raise litters similar to the way I do. Its is a good look into the time, money, commitment it takes to bring up a litter of pups. Some of the things that go on behind the scenes, that the eventual puppies owners (family), never realize go into the litter. Enjoy my litter as I see them. Day to day
